Anyone that is willing to add some comments ,please do. I am going to see this film tomorrow night and will check this thread on Monday. I wonder if this is too much for alot of people.I see all Mel's films.Why,I don't know.I like the way he does things.
Just heard the subtitles are scarce and quick. Must be mainly visual.Fun.:o

We're going tonight. I would have gone last night but it was packed. I'm expecting the same tonight but we pre paid for tickets.I'll leave a review tonight on what I think of this film.

I saw it & was mildly captivated. The beauty of the actors, the culture's simplistic means of living, the dramatic element within the primary family, all of these definitely drew me in. I loved that this story was not told in an hour and a half, but rather that the story progressed quite naturally.

For some reason, the brutality/bloodlust of the Mayan culture didn't convey as much as I thought it would (at least compared to the Romans' bloodlust in The Passion movie, anyway). I thought it seemed rather watered-down in that area, as someone who has actually studied on the Mayans before. Considering Mel Gibson went overboard in The Passion, I figured he would do the same here. He didn't.

P.S. That whole "stitching" thing....ich.

Ahh! The "stitching!" Me and my friend just looked at each other and were like "WHAT?!"

But... wow. This movie was awesome. I LOVED it. Yes, it was pretty depressing. And yeah it was a little bloody... but, jeez. The cinematography was incredible. I'm going to go see it again soon, and I'll definitely pick this one up on DVD when it comes out.

I've always loved all of Mel Gibson's work... this is for sure two thumbs up for him!

Eh. I'll watch this on Saturday...only because it was compared to Aguirre: The Wrath of God, one of the greatest films ever made. I'm going to go into the theater with a very closed mind. Plus I'm not paying.

It's brilliant. It was shot in the Amazon jungle. Kind artsy stuff with some glimpses of graphic violence- and the evil face of Klaus Kinski. Legend has it that the director, Werner Herzog, had to threaten the cast with a gun so they wouldn't leave.

My college group pastor and his friends walked out of it because of the nudity o_o
Yeah, they can be a little legalistic......
Personally, I thought it was awesome. Ill have to go see it again before its out of the theatres.

We thought it a great motion picture and was lost in it.I believe this film is beautiful as is at times bloody.Somehow it evens out.

I don't know. Someone posted some links for some reviews and in one of them they compared this film to Aguirre...saying that if your "familiy enjoyed this film, they'll surely enjoy Aguirre".

i loved apocalypto. it gave me a new meaning [or perhaps just an enhanced meaning] to the word "run". i dont know about anyone else, but i expected the ending before i saw the movie, and was so captivated that it still surprised me. unlike an earlier poster, the ending got me to say "Oh my God", since i knew what the ramifications would be.

I saw last night, and it was ok. I don't know if I'd see it again though. I thought a lot of the stuff was too predictable...

I closed my eyes a couple times mostly because I didn't really want to see some of the stuff that was going on, but I'm pretty sure they didn't really show as much as my imagination did...

Umm...I don't regret seeing it. But last quarter I read a book called Guns, Germs, and Steel and while watching the movie I kept comparing it to what GGS said about societies failing. And it was kind of sad that they only focused on the human sacrifice with the Mayans and not any of their contributions to society.

I saw it today and I enjoyed it very much. It was not as gore-intensive as Passion of the Christ was, no where near it. That's not to say it doesn't have gore, it does and I can see how it can make some people feel uneasy or be grossed out. However it is so visceral, you really do believe you are in that world and seeing things how they happened at that time. You become attached to the characters and really feel for them when they go through the conflicts they face. As for engaging you with the characters, it does this superbly well I thought.

It is so worth a view people. If you want a family friendly film this is not it... but then when I posted this thread I never said it was JPP.

I do enjoy his directing so Mel-hats off.
