This inscription on the Statue of Liberty has been a beacon to the world. Lately, it has become conditional, with an addendum like, “Offer may vary” or “Huddled masses from Norway preferred.”

When supporters of the policy state migrants "shouldn't have broken the law in the first place", they ignore the fact that seeking asylum is not actually breaking a law. Removing children without any sure way to return the child to their parents is kidnapping imho. And it is NOT reflective of Judeo Christian values or of our country's values as a nation of immigrants.

Cortez, like most politicians, spoke in vague generalities, so as not to suggest that individual Americans take responsibility for their own lives. She mentioned the 'enriching of the few at the top', but she didn't tell us not to buy their products (that's what enriches them).

Democrats can continue to praise AOC without reservation. This will lead to losing the WH in 2020, and perhaps the House (and certainly not winning the Senate).

AOC is a socialist and proud of it, and yes her brand of socialism is the "democratic socialism" of present day Europe rather than than the socialism of the dictatorships. Democratic socialism is NOT a slogan. It is a set of ideas and a platform. AOC wants workers to control boards Of Directors (certainly they need to be on the boards). He views of Medicare for All or a Green New Deal are NOT that these are aspirational goals. She detests moderates and moderation; she wants radical changes NOW.

As is Sanders, AOC is a democratic socialist who has been accepted within the Democratic Party. [Sanders had to officially join in order to run; he'll go back to being an Independent when he loses]. AOC says that it is democratic socialism that it at the core of the beliefs of the Democratic Party. Trump folk and the conservatives (2 different groups) would gleefully agree.

The reality is that we have what was an Independent movement for 100 years taking over a large segment of the Democratic Party.

As I have suggested, the Democrats are likely to nominate someone from this group in 2020.

The "REAL" tests will come in 2024 and 2028 for both parties, as they come to grips with the changes in demography and deal with the extremes that have taken over their parties.

As I have suggested, a really strong option for the Republican Party is for trump to announce, after his White House Christmas parry, that he has decided not to run for re-election. Republicans would easily be elected for 8 more years, under a Haley or a Rubio, after they defeat a left wing Democratic candidate.
