• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've had Meniere's officially for about a year, though I know the symptoms have been there for at least 2. I take a diuretic, and it helps.

I also have severe motion sickness, as in I can't swing on a swing for very long anymore, and I have to take medication if I'm in a car for more than an hour.

Both these conditions are due to my technically premature birth, which made my inner ears very tiny.

Is there anyone else in this same boat? :groupray: If you are - it's not fun at all. :(

I have Meniere's. :( No, fun is not a word I would use to describe it. (((hugs))))

I developed--or received?-- it from a disabling industrial accident... which include TBI (minimal) but head trauma just as well (but not limited to.)

I lost hearing in one ear nearly completely, and the other ear is technically as bad due to tinnitus, also from the head trauma.

It has plateaued for a few years mostly... but for many years early on I was constantly running into walls and swirling about with vertigo, deafness, visual disturbances etc. I think it hasn't been so bad lately because I shield myself from situations and such that make it worse. I realized that I also have what is defined at "flicker" vertigo... funny thing is an old friend of mine was the doctor that discovered and researched this during the Vietnam days (military was losing aircraft... which they found was from their own lights being flicker reflected into the pilot's face.) I suffer as much from strobe type lighting as evenly paced trees ...sunlight and shadows... but didn't have this issue until the Menierre's. :(

I find some foods make it worse...the Menierre's so keep track of the research and follow the advice.

I learned ASL so I can communicate with SOMEONE if I need to... and I signed up and received a TDD phone (but now have no land line :( ) which is free through the government..through the Deaf Services Bureau of your State (I assumed you are in the USA.) I haven't suffered a day of total deafness for years (and I do thank God sincerely for this.)

I also have a jaw issue that flares, and on those days it makes my hearing (inner ear Menierre's) worse and I tend to just go mumbling along and no one can understand me. LOL I've limited my social life to the extent it probably isn't healthy. Try not to do this to yourself.
