  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone know why browser settings change?

Nope. Nobody is here. And, nobody touches my computer but me.

I didn't respond to your post on the other thread I started the other day - asking for help regarding that popup IM or whatever it is - because it seemed like the Christian Forums posts were frozen at yesterday's time. No matter what I did, I couldn't get to read the posts today.

Until Erwin helped me and said to check my settings, as I detailed above.
Sure enough, my settings were at 'Never' like Erwin suspected. So, today, I reset to Automatic and it worked for a few hours, then it reverted to Never.

Yesterday, I had deleted my cookies and temp files to see if that would get rid of that pain-in-the-neck 'messenger service' thing. I just got another one.

I'm about to go bald pulling my hair out.

I found out why my browser settings changed. Yay!

The fix was simple. I have Windows XP. And, Windows XP has a function that allows the user to restore settings to the way they were days, weeks or months prior. That means that lots and lots of information on each and every session on the computer is stored. That's a big cache of information.

And, I don't ever use that function. So, I shut it off. By shutting it off, the entire cache of useless temporary files was wiped out. Voila! No more problems with my browser settings changing.

I prefer Opera.

It wasn't the browser itself.  It was my Windows XP storage functions.

When the temp files get to a certain level, it won't search for newer versions of pages.  So, it reverts to 'Never' search for them and takes the system off 'Automatic'.

So, all I had to do was to shut off the 'System Restore' feature so that Windows XP won't be saving all those settings that are saved in the unlikely event that I might want to roll back my system settings to where they had been at a previous date in time.
