I was up late as I am everynight and I caught Bob Larson on the show Coast to Coast AM detailing his exorcism works. I have known of this guy for years and used to catch him on the radio once in a while when driving home from college years ago. I just wondered how many others hear are familiar with him.

To me, he really comes off like one of those evangelists always pleading for every last nickel he can get a listener to send him. My other criticism would be that he seems to find demonic posession in everything imaginable. The guy would probably cast a demon out of me to relieve my indigestion. Larson claims that exorcism was far more common in early Christianity than most realize.

There is a part of me that thinks this guy to be a total kook, but it is hard to dismiss what he has done in front of so many people with audio and video. Most of the criticisms I found on google have to do with alledged financial irregularities and people turned off by his donations appeal, but that is pretty much it. Anyone else have any thoughts? There have to be some people in CF with knowledge of this guy.

How do you know those were really Bob Larson? Bob Larson claims there are demons that go around and impersonate him. I suppose if it asked for donations that it was probably the real Bob Larson.

Some investigators have found individuals who have said they had demons driven out by Bob Larson in multiple cities, basically the claim is that the people on whom he performs exorcisms are paid staff.

Lots of problems of lifestyle and doctrine in his ministry. I wouldn't recommend supporting it. Give your donations to your local congregation.

Bingo - you hit every criticism i'd have of Larson from just hearing him on the radio. It seemed as if he spent an inordinate amount of time asking for $$$. :sigh:

There is truth in what he says - big question is, how much truth and how much of it is Biblical truth?? ;)

I was at one of his meetings once... He blasted rock music for an hour before the exorcisms began, claiming that it would "excite the demons..."

...During the 'service', he stood up and started telling everyone about a woman in the crowd that had been gloriously delivered. She started screeming demonically while he was still speaking, and he was unable to cast the demon out fully.

Another case involved a woman apparently with multiple personalities. He eventually scolded her and had her sit down again.

It was clear that there was a demonic supernatural presence manifested there, but as for the methods of Larson, I am highly skeptical.

My mother also had contact with their DWJD team (Do What Jesus Did) which was supposed to be a sort of spirit-led counselling group. The couple assigned to her had very strange ideas regarding demons to the point that they would not even leave their house at times. They also believed odd things, for example, that demons could be transmitted through bare feet. (hense shoes should be warn by the saint)

It seems to be a pretty strange outfit overall, in my opinion.

They impersonate him? If I had one of those emoticoms that rolled its eyes, I'd put it here.

I can believe that he would do something like that, but it seems hard to believe that they're all cases of paid staff. He brought up a good point last night saying that some people try to catch him in a bogus posession, but it never lasts very long, because no one can keep the act up for an hour or sometimes several hours. You hear the freaky voices and stuff and I myself couldn't even begin to do something like that. I have to kinda conclude that the guy probably does indeed perform some real exorcisms.

Lots of problems of lifestyle and doctrine in his ministry. I wouldn't recommend supporting it. Give your donations to your local congregation.

Believe me, I have no intention of sending money. I just find the guy fascinating and I am curious, because you listen and naturally wonder "Is this real?" and you hear enough of it to think it must be.

Just out of curiosity, what doctrinal problems come to mind?

He was on Thursday night. If I was a Streamlink subscriber, I'd burn you a CD and send it to you, but I'm not hardcore enough for Streamlink. :D

There sure is some interesting stuff on C2C. Some of the guests are absolute whackjobs, but there is some really good stuff thrown in the mix. I just happened on to it because I work 5:30 pm till around 3:00 am and I have an hour drive home. That crazy job schedule has kept me from finding a regular congregation as I never get to sleep before 5:30 am by the time I fix something to eat and stuff, but I'm trying to find a better job.

You hear the audio and stuff and it sures seems like genuine possession.

Oh, now that's about as weird as it usually gets, IMHO.
