Anyone ever volunteered for big sister/brother?

Has anyone ever volunteered for big sister/brother or something similar? I'm about to apply. I want/need to make a difference in someone's life. As much for myself as for them, to put things in perspective and make me feel at least somewhat useful.

I have considered CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates. You go through some training and then assist and advocate for children involved in the legal system.

I volunteer at a homeless shelter. I know that's not really the same thing, but I love it.

no, but i think it is a good program, and if i wasn't a teacher i'd be interested in it.

I have not, but my girlfriend is doing that this summer.
