I do apologize, but I have to disagree with the OP. From the second I posted my introduction, I felt welcomed and wanted here.
I had some problems when I first came in; those are gone now. With much prayer from here definitely and at home too (obviously) my dreams of having our family back together came true and I am engaged to a wonderful man.
I owe most of this to the folks who are such nice friends who prayed for me and yes, you all know who you are. And my Chaplains! God bless all of you! And I've gotten advice on things I desperately needed help with, and oh -- my blog!
Everyone has been so kind. Even in debates people can be kind. The only times it gets hairy for me was once when I was confronted by a flat-earther who decided this was a Fundamentalist belief. Um, NO, I'm a Fundamentalist Christian and we do not do flat earth anything. Okay? Seriously -- where did this crazy idea that somehow we Fundies horked up a belief in a flat earth come from? Hmmm? Because we dress modestly, we must believe the earth is flat? Because we live in a secluded community away from the town and its people we must believe the earth is flat? Because we believe in being farmers and providing for ourselves as much as possible we have to believe the earth is flat? I even asked our pastor, Rev. R, if there were anywhere in any Fundamentalist teachings or doctrines that taught or presented the idea of a flat earth society or belief. At first he laughed at me, then he saw I was serious and said, "No, Sister Emmy, we don't believe that. It's true some of other religions do but I don't know if that is a part of a church's doctrine or not. As you get out more and meet more people, you'll find that there are all kinds of crazy ideas out there, and that's one of them. And it's good to ask these questions, Sister Emmy. Keep asking, too. God gave you a good mind; I'm glad you use it."
The second one was in the same vein where it was stated that Fundamentalists hated Catholics and some other religions. Well, I can tell you that that is just so much crap it isn't even funny. We don't see religion any more than we see skin color. We don't care if you're Catholic or Lutheran or Methodist or Baptist or Mormon or whatever. If you believe in God, awesome! You're a brother or sister in Christ to us. Don't like that? Too bad. Also -- surprise, surprise -- we aren't going to try to "convert" you. Now I do know there are some loonies out there who will try to convert you by scaring you and telling you terrible lies about your church or religion. They believe they are the only ones going to Heaven and the rest of the planet is going to hell and their lives are caught up minding the business of others, where they have no right to be in anyway! There are some of these who call themselves "Fundamentalist Christians," but they are not. Stay far, far away from these people. I mean it. They will even scare your children, and they have been known to follow women around.
Okay, I'm done with issues I have here. I have been made to feel as if I walk into a very special place when I log in. I find my friends, lots of things to talk about, the Angel prayers, my blog, fun and serious stuff all together waiting for me. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry, but I love this place all the time. A bunch of you prayed for me when I was sick that time and I just can't thank you precious souls enough for that.
Also, I'm getting married in October, so I'll need a little help. I bet it will be fun to get together and discuss ideas! Faroukfarouk was awesome about dresses and came up with some great ideas! So come join the fun with me when I post it! I want the whole mountain to know this girl knows how to throw a party!
God bless every single one of you.
All good things
Emmy
