• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes. I have been on it for over a year and losing weight is near to impossible, though it seems if I end up not eating for a day because I am busy or something, I drop sooo much weight quickly.

I've been on Celexa for nearly 8 years. Celexa, when metabolize, becomes Lexapro. I tried Lexapro about a year ago and it made me sooooo tired. I felt like a zombie. I went back to Celexa and I'm my ol chipper self. I have had no weight gain with Celexa. I can gain or lose when I want. No side effects from Celexa.

May want to try Celexa if you think the weight gain becomes a problem.

Peace your way,
InHisgripkim

I'm taking lexapro right now and it seems to be working well, but the only thing is i've experienced weight gain--- like 20 lbs :(. Has anyone else experienced this on lexapro?

I too was on lexapro for about 2 years. It caused me to gain 40 pounds. It worked well for me but did have a lot of other side effects I did not like so they switched me to Lamictal. But it too has side effects and I still can't lose the wieght. I think most drugs that are for chemical imbalances has side effects. Sometimes we have to take the bad with the good. And I know the benefit I get from my meds far out way the side effects....:) ....God Bless EVERYONE!!!!....Rush

I was told by my doc once to take my meds right before bed so most of the side effects would happen durring your sleep.

Flatscan,
That is a good idea but some of the side effects doesn't matter. Suchas wieght gain, sex life ( I am married), and some of the meds mess with sleeping patterns. I am on 5 different medications for depression and Bi Polar Disorder. Si I just have to live with the side effects. But again for some side effects that is a good idea....God Bless EVERYONE....Rush

Hello. I have been on Lexapro for about 2 years. I think that I have probably gained 5 pounds or so from it. Have you tried exercising regularly?

I was on Lexapro for a short while before I could not take it any more. This medication threw me for a whirl. I was constantly sick, dizzy and nauseated. I am now taking a medication called Cymbalta that can actually supress the apetite and give more energy. I like this medication a heck of a lot better. I suffered with untreated depression for four years before finally seeking help. My advise, if you are in need seek help! Also, not every medication will fit every case. Leave it to your medical doctor to proscribe what is right for you! God Bless!

I was on Lexapro and Wellbutrin. With the combination, I actually lost weight because I kept forgetting to eat (Wellbutrin is related to amphetamines). I stopped taking both of them a few months ago.

I feel like the Lexapro was making my muscles sore, my jaw clentch, my sex life erratic, and generally putting me in some sort of hypo-manic state (I'm not bipolar or anything). I kind of feel like I started caring about things so little that the only reason I felt "better" was because I didn't care anymore, even about my original problem which was concern over "not caring" about anything. All in all, an ironic dead-end in the search for quick-fixes.

Well, you and your doctor need to find what's best for you. I was on Lexapro a while, but it made me very jittery and I tended to have major problems with gross motor control. (In other words, my limbs would shake, which is not fun.) I couldn't do anything like that so I had to try a new medicine.

I've been on Zoloft now and it's a bit better, but I'm still very jittery, in a way.
