Anybody out there a game artist? Or want to be one?

I want to be a video game artist. I went to school for film/animation, but they hardly taught me anything. So I'm trying to teach myself the skills needed to break into the industry. Anyone else?

Well...I dont know if this counts but I do mapping for Quake 3 and just got into Doom 3 mapping. 3d mapping isnt that hard, and if you want I can help you learn how to do it with IdSoftware Engine(Quake 2, Doom 3, Quake 3) based games.

I'd like to start modifying quake and the like, cause my friends have. I don't know if I'm going into the video game field or just the computer field. As far as the mapping and stuff, I'm not sure. I'd rather get into the programming aspect of the games.

Yeah if you want to "make" your own games, I reccomend getting into modding. So much cheaper than actually paying for a license to get a engine to work on, and then having to make the whole game from scratch...yikes.
