All I know is that the Xbox 360 will destroy it. :)

ive heard that it wont be backwards compatible which will undermine it hugely as the PS3 will be backwards compatible with BOTH PS2 and PS1 games so the available games library will be HUGE!!

also the PS3 is going to be using "the cell" processor which is 4ghz aswell as running in 64bit!!!! add that with Nvidia promising the most feature rich and powerful GPU they've ever created its going to be running faster and looking better than any current PC!!

ive also heard another rumour that the PS3 will be using a blu-ray drive (BD-ROM) as opposed to a DVD drive which means that games that take up to 25gb of space could fit on ONE DISC as well as being able to use any normal dvd or cd!!

they have also given the development kits to games makers already so there should be quality games ready to come out for the launch.

so basically without "the cell" the new xbox wont be able to come near to it in terms of performance and it will never be able to beat it in terms of the quality and quantity of games.

Probably wont beat it in quantity, no, but quality? I bet. :) Sony is losing flight with its recent weak library of new games. They're all sequeals of franchise games. If a franchise dies out, so does Sony.

Xbox360 will have more powerful and faster graphics. It WILL have backwards playability, including all the same features the first Xbox had.

Trust me, anything PS can do, Xbox can do better.

i stand corrected about the backwards compatibility - i only heard a rumour.

quality is definately what it will be beaten on. i was conisdering getting an Xbox recently until i looked at what games there were and there were only about 3 that i would like to play and any others were games that were also for PS2. but thats just my opinion.

unless the new Xbox has "the cell" as its processor (which is very unlikely as it was created by Sony, Toshiba and IBM) it will not be faster - fact!
nothing will surpass it for quite a while. ive read that, theoretically according to the architecture of it, it will be a few times the speed of even the fastest current home computers!! i very much doubt that microsoft can compete with a processor like that before the release of the new xbox. ive also read that there will be FOUR of these things in the playstation 3 working in parallel!!

it will also be using Nvidia's most powerful GPU ever created!

basically the first time around xbox OWNED the PS2 in terms of power without doubt but this time round all signs point to sony absolutely dominating in terms of power and graphics for years to come. ALSO the xbox 360 (only makes sense if its shaped like a sphere!) will NOT be using blu-ray drives but only DVD drive. this means only a max of about 7GB for developers to work with rather than about 25GB. the only weak point would be sonys online ability but some have been saying that the current way they initiated it was only as a test before the next-gen rather than how microsoft have done it. hopefully they can get it sorted properly which you'd think they would do.

I heard a rumor that the PS3 will come with a hard drive like the Xbox did. Can anyone confirm this?

from the info ive read it looks very likely that one will come as standard although i have no idea about the size. can you imagine all the processing power AND being able to store game files on disk to reduce loading times AND not having to buy memory cards unless you want to play on someone elses console! hopefully it will have 4 gamepad slots built in so no more faffing about with multitaps!

also, sony want the release date to be end of this year but the time the mass production of the cell chips start may force it back into early or mid 2006 but its still too early to tell.

All I know is that I want 1. All these people talking about Xbox being better I definetely have to disagree!! Don't U?

well technically speaking the current Xbox is better than the playstation 2. but there is no possible way, as ive mentioned in my previous posts, that the Xbox 360 will be better than the playstation 3 in terms of raw computing power, graphical ability and the optical drive used.

ill dig around for some xbox 360 specs to compare with the PS3 to prove my point further.

This stuff about having four processors and the fasted GPU, have you actually seen a reliable source for that or is it just rumors? I've seen a lot of those rumors flying around, and I find them hard to believe (on both sides, not just PS3). How on earth are they going to stick all these processors that are supposedly better (and therefore, probably more expensive) than the current fastest, which are $700+ and have the system be reasonably priced? It just does not make sense. Even if they were half the cost each of the fastest now, that would still run over $1000 for the processors alone, not to mention the graphics card, and the mobo to interface them together and with the "bd-drive" or whatever and the controllers? Adding up the numbers, it just doesn't make sense.

the source is from the technical diagrams that STI (sony, toshiba and IBM) had to submit to the patents office and some smart technical people have figured out what this means so the theoretical capabilities of "the cell" could actually be reached. even if they cant quite reach those capabilities it will still be incredibly powerful.

the ingenious thing about it is that its relatively cheap to make because they are taking advantage of the relatively new 90nm dye technology, that the new AMD 64bit processors use, so that they can be made small and cheap(ish).

sony more than likely has got a deal with Nvidia to produce the GPUs so they wont be paying anywhere near as much as retail models and even less than cost.

i have no idea about the BD drive to be honest but there must be a way.

the thing to remember about games consoles is that they generally sell at either a loss of the company or for only at a slight profit margin. the way the company makes the money is through games sales and accessories (which has made me think they prob wont fit in four controller sockets so they can sell multitaps).

i reckon it will sell at between £150 and £300 so about $280 to $560.

after some digging heres a comparison (note these are either rumours from reputable games sites or magazines or calculated values from patents taken by the companies)

PS3
CPU - 4 "cell" processors working in parallel at 4.0ghz EACH at 64bit
GPU - 2/3 times faster than GeForce 6800 OC
Mem - Rambus "Yellowstone" and "Redwood" modules operating at at least 3200GHZ (havent been able to find the MB value)
Medium - Blu-Ray allowing fro 25GB per disc single layered or 50GB per disc dual layered
H/D - coming as standard (dont know the size)
Backwards Compatible - YES

Xbox 360
CPU - 3 PowerPC cores TOTALLING 3.0GHZ at 64bit
GPU - An ATI Chip Very likely at the R500/R550 level (bout the same level as the PS3 GPU)
Mem - likely to be modded DDR2 at 800-1000Mhz
Medium - Dual Layer DVD
H/D - optional (dont know the size)
Backwards Compatible - looking VERY unlikely
Misc - Aiming for a Hi-Def screen as lowest commen denominator (1280x720 @ 60fps)
- USB 2.0 camera for 1.2 megapixel shots and VGA standard video
-mem cards between 64MB and 1GB

ive heard that the Xbox360 may have up to 6 Cores but even with that it wouldnt be able to compete with the PS3.

im also trusting completely on what ive read about the graphics cards as i know very little about them.

this may all change but from leaked information and patent information this is as close as everything ive looked at can get to describing them. Sony should be unveiling the PS3 before E3 with kicks off on May 17th.

Just remember that most of what you are finding is rumors. Things change. Even if PS3 was more powerful, I would never buy it. All it'll have is racing games, Final Fantasy, and GTA games. Sickening. Xbox is way better for FPS and action, which I like. Also, I already have a subscription to Xbox Live, so nmeah. :p

X-Box Whatever:
Medium - Dual Layer DVD

..and we are supposed to burn PS3 games how???

I'll stick with the X-Box whatchamacallit then, thank you. I don't know where to get a Blu-Ray disc burner.

I'll wait to make my decision on what to buy once I get the official specs of all of this. Remember, all of you ripping Xbox 360 for being less powerful, it is coming out way before the PS3, just like the PS2 before the Xbox, which will give it an advantage. Of course, it could also go the way of the DreamCast before PS2, but I hope not.
