I moved from Evansville to rural Warrick county almost a year ago. There is a huge difference just in peoples' attitudes and I don't like it. There's no sense of community, people out here aren't concerned about anything but themselves and their own families. I miss community theater particularly, and God forbid you get hungry after 11 p.m. Walmart is the only thing open right now. I know I'm only 45 minutes away or so but the people are going to drive me nuts.

I lived in Evansville for a short while. I hate the way people drive there. Terrible, terrible drivers. Otherwise, I like it. Compared to where I grew up it's great. There's tons of places to go. In my hometown, which is near Jasper, everything closes so early. You're lucky to find anything open past 8 or 9 p.m. Unless you enjoy walking around Wal-Mart or driving to French Lick to walk around the hotels, there's nothing to do. So Evansville is a big upgrade. I actually prefer the lack of community. It makes me feel more comfortable for some reason.

Yeah, I miss home.

Isn't it interesting how all the horrible drivers have Kentucky license plates?

What happens is I usually go to work at 4:30 in the morning, so on the days I don't work I wake up at about 3, way earlier than anybody else in the house and to kill time I drive to Evansville to IHOP or Denny's. Even if there was just a coffee bar in the Walmart that stayed open all night it would be nice.

Haha, true!

I used to go to school on Monday mornings around that time. No time is easier to drive on the Lloyd. I always thought about trying out the IHOP. Is it good?

Yeah, it would be nice to have something like that. I'm hoping to move to Evansville again in the near future. Maybe after I'm done with school. Although, I don't plan to make it my permanent home.

Yeah, my mom has a house there she rents out. In December the guy that lives there is leaving and she offered it to me, but I'm not sure if I can afford it. I work at Ameriqual out on 41 so I don't have to drive the Lloyd everyday but IMO 41 is worse. When I lived in Evansville work was 14 miles away and now its 27 miles away and I actually make it home quicker than before since I can just jump on 64 and come down through Boonville. Where I live now is close to Degonia Springs if you've ever heard of it.

My family is originally from Dayton, OH and we moved to Evansville when I was in 3rd grade. I remember back then I immediately loved that town. It seemed a lot friendlier and the schools were a lot nicer, so I lived there the rest of the time I was in school. My mom moved out here about one year before I moved in with her. My lease was up, I had a lot of debt I needed to pay down and thought it would be cheaper. My car insurance is half the price and rent is less for a much bigger place but I'm paying a lot more for utilities now, and don't forget the gas...

Hello. I've not been in this area yet.. so hi!

I grew up in Shelbyville, college in Evansville, moved to Greenwood, then Indianapolis and back to Evansville. So, you get the picture..

Just wanted to poke my head in. Evansville is great and all, just not where I would have thought I would have lived.. twice.

I miss the night life of Indianapolis.. not the bar scene.. but the fact that downtown was hopping late into the night.

So it's good to be here! I'll stick my head in as much as I can!

Downtown Evansville has really improved since the casino came to town, and I've never seen the PCG without walkers on it. Of course if you actually go to the riverfront its usually just a bunch of high school kids tailgating, but there's always people around.

By the way, it looks like you go to my old church. That's kinda creepy, but have some blessings.

thx for the blessings! i don't really understand the concept of them, but hey i will learn.

it's interesting to find people from evansville on here! when i was in town for college back about 7 or 8 years ago.. downtown was the pits. it's still in the pits, but climbing out! it's nice to be down there at lunch time. there are food carts and people enjoying being outside. and the renovated store fronts are nice! oh, and the lofts downtown on main are great. i've been in one, and the rooftop patio is awesome!

Yep, I went to Signature School my senior year of high school (2003) and developed my appreciation for downtown then. Before that I'd probably been down there less than 5 times. There was one hot-dog stand in the park across from Stratman's and they'd started remodeling some of the buildings on Main, but I haven't been down there in awhile. I don't remember any more food carts and I'm pretty sure the lofts weren't done yet, but I bet they are nice.

You can find me roaming NWI, whether it be Merrillville, Gary, Crown Point, Hobart, Sherrerville, Portage, Hammond, Valporaiso, etc. - I'm usually in one those places.
Yay, another NWI fellow.

.... I listen to the radio station his ministry (LESEA Ministries) founded (Welcome to Pulse FM) quite frequently, they play Christian contemporary music and have an awesome free music festival every year...

... I live in the northern part of the state, just a half hour south of the MI line....

blessings,
ken
Sounds like your in the same general region epistemaniac. I listen to Pulse FM, amongst the other 5 stations I pick up either to the east or to the west.

I'm in between NWI and Michiana. So Valpo, Michigan City, Laporte and SouthBend, Granger, Mishawaka & New Buffalo, MI.

One weekend a month in Peru/Kokomo.

Lived 5 years in Bloomington when I went to IU, loved it there, so much more than the north - but maybe that was the college environment.
