• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Well to say the least I was on Zoloft for roughly 1 year and 8 months. I felt as if my depression was increasing as the years/months passed by. After 11 months I felt serious side effects resulting in this prescription. The first signs of side effects was not only the worsening of depression, but dehydration. I recently stopped taking the prescribed medication(zoloft) as I was experiencing forms of anxiety. Like I said it has been about a month since and I've actually felt better than while I was depending on this med. *sigh* Lately, I've just been walking/jogging 3-4 times a week to relieve any negative feelings. It has been working, but I need some type of supplement or nutrient to assist me in this situation. Any replies are welcomed.

Well, I take a product that's been shown to help with depression, anxiety, and memory issues. I take it for the memory effects, so I can retain the knowledge I gain from lectures and studies at the University.

It's called Piracetam, Piracetam is a Nootropic (Mind stimulant) and Piracetam has no side effects. I've been taking Piracetam for over 8 months, sometimes taking more than the recommended dosage (for intense studies, and finals) and have not had anything negative happen.

I was taking Adderall before taking Piracetam, and I was having way too many side effects to consider the product even remotely effective. This site has a lot of references and citations of Medical/Clinical/Scientific studies done with Piracetam.

If you want it to be slightly more effective I recommend taking it with a vitamin-B complex (something that has choline in it) or eating eggs with it (natural source of choline).

smartdrugsforthought.com
-This site has a research page where they have several Medical/Clinical/Scientific documents listed. Tons of information on it that could help you out in your searching for over the counter help!

If you have any questions or concerns, or anyone else for that matter, please feel free to ask! God bless! And I hope this helps you with your depression!

Have faith :)

If you are living somewhere where it is winter, chances are your Vitamin D level is low. There is some line through the USA (I know all of Michigan is north of it) where it is just a given in the nutrition world that we can not make enough vitamin D from natural sun exposure. We are not supposed to give medical advice on this board, so I'd recommend that you get a blood test from your doctor and see what dosages he/she would like to see you on. Either that or do some internet research to see what are considered safe levels to take. It is a lot higher that it was a few years ago. My doctor wanted me getting 1200 units per day (note: that is JUST me), but I found I do best if I upped it even higher to the higher end of the safe recommendations. (And for anyone who wants to know, I am getting my information from a sophomore level nutrition class taught by a registered dietician...and I got an A).

Thank you for your helpful information blackribbon. I have done some research on low level vitamin D consumption. It makes a lot of sense to me now. I'll ask my doctor the next time I am in for a yearly check-up.

Hey Zenpit I did happen to check out smartdrugsforthought.com. It seems that it was used to treat some forms of depression in many people. It was on the research page on their website. Not sure if you noticed that zen. I also wiki'd "piracetam" and it had some information regarding depression and anxiety. "Some sources suggests that its overall effect on lowering depression and anxiety is higher than improving memory." Which led me to the medical document that was linked to that section of the wiki.

Malykh AG, Sadaie MR (February 2010). "Piracetam and piracetam-like drugs: from basic science to novel clinical applications to CNS disorders". Drugs 70 (3): 287–312.

I did end up calling SmartDrugsforthought.com today and they were able to provide me more information. They say it is typically a cognitive enhancer and is used to retain verbal memory, but, according to Wiki with the MD clinical study, it seems the overall effect of lowering depression and anxiety is much higher than improving the memory.

Thanks a lot my brothers and god bless!

Hey bro the bottles came in this morning and man this stuff is great. I called a guy at there office on thursday and they informed me about the "attack dose". I did end up taking 4800mg this morning @ 11am PST. Within 45-50 minutes I immediately felt a difference with this supplement. I noticed that colors and music were more vibrant. It's definitely an alternative to any medication that has to be prescribed from a doctor. I did some research and I found that this is also good to take with a choline supplements. I'll have to check out vitamin shoppe tomorrow for this though. I still have the mental and visual clarity from the dosage of Neuro-Boost I took this morning. Hahah I had a cup of coffee with this to say the least. Thanks bro, this was a great suggestion by you. For this I give you many blessings and you will be in my prayers today.

God bless and tread lightly my brothers.

Update: I don't know how many days it has been since I took this but I feel a lot better with Neuro-Boost Piracetam. I've been taking roughly 2400mg a day since the attack dose. My mind is at a clear state and it's somewhat amazing. I usually don't trust supplements, but I can say this is one that definitely works. Thanks Zenpit. It seems like there is also a promo sale on smartdrugsforthought.com . Well brother I'll try to keep you all updated. I love you all (brothers and sisters) May god bring the light into all of us and our loved ones.

Hey zenpit, have you noticed a difference in your vision when taking piracetam? My perception of color is much more clear now. Before I was somewhat color blind - like blue, black, and green colors were difficult to determine or orange and red were hard to pick out. Thanks again brother.

Btw I wanted to do more research and I found this medical research document.
