  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any suggestions?

How old is your puppy? Once your puppy has been fully vacinated, it is an ideal time to get the socialisation process started. What kind of character is the larger dog? Is he friendly and sociable? My little dog generally has no problem with larger dogs, it just takes a bit of time. They need to get to know each other. If you display caution and apprehension then the dogs could pick up your anxiety so just relax. I am sure they will be great friends. Book your pup in for socialisation classes once the vacination programme is complete. The more dogs he meets the better for him.

God Bless

I would also recommend the two dogs meet on neutral ground at first, not in the home. Many dogs can have issues at first with a new dog entering "their" territory. If the larger dog has been trained, that helps quite a bit. Also, I would take your dog and walk it around the new house without the other dog being around just to get her smell around the house and then let the other dog out without your puppy being there so that she can smell your dog's scent. Have you begun crate training yet? It's a wonderful tool to help keep the dogs seperated when no one is home watching them and it also helps house training quite a bit!

I'd say have the dogs meet for a couple minutes at a time, and then slowly give them longer amounts of time to be with each other, so that your aunts dog doesn't feel like it's an invasion, and so that your dog doesn't feel overwhelmed, and so that the two dogs can get used to each other.

i agree with whoever said to have the dogs meet in a neutral territory. have your aunt and her dog meet you and yours at a park before moving in, or even on the street outside the house. i CAN say for sure and from experience that your aunt's dog will constantly exert his/her dominance over yours if you don't do this.

Yeah, like jhollas said, figure out what kind of personality the two dogs are(dominant/submissive), if either one is submissive, then you shouldn't have much trouble getting them situated, but the best, is when they are both submissive. If they are both dominant though, you'll want to have them meet in nuetral territory, and in small amounts at first.
