Any secular songs that remind you of Jesus?

when i was on a mission trip, the place i visited was doing a skit. i noticed it was a secular song, but i started crying... it was almost word for word of what was going on in my spiritual life at the time. y'all might have heard about this skit. the main song in it is "Iris" by Goo Goo dolls.

I always liked the song by Joan Osbourne 'If God Was One Of Us'.

"If God had a name, what would it be
And would you call it to his face
If you were faced with him in all his glory
What would you ask if you had just one question
And yeah yeah God is great yeah yeah God is good
yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home"

It always makes me think of Jesus, and how, YES! He was like one of us. Came to earth to experience all the mundane stuff we do, even death, even a gritty awful death. Of course, the writer thinks otherwise, but I think of Him as understanding our humanity, sitting with us on that bus, and embracing us even though we are 'slobs'.

Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit. (Assume Jesus' eyes were blue lol)
In the End - Linkin Park. (End Times - not necessarily Jesus)
Numb - Linkin Park (reminds me of a christian persecuted in their own house. like me. "Every step that I take is another mistake in your eyes"

Captain Sunshine...Neil Diamond

Words and Music by Neil Diamond

Captain Sunshine, make me drink wine,
Make me feel fine when I'm feelin' wrongly down.
He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea.

Captain Sunshine, he do me fine,
Make the words rhyme when he knows the tune is sad.
He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea.

He don't take much, he don't make much,
But ah, to be such a man as he,
and walk so pure between the earth and the sea

(yeah, I know I said NEIL DIAMOND)

"Turn, Turn, Turn" reminds me of the Scripture in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. I'm not sure the original artists meant it to be that way, but I know of a few Christian artists that have covered it. Possibly because the song reminded them of the Scripture, as well.

Then there's "Up Where We Belong". BeBe and CeCe Winan's rendition says "Lord, lift us up" rather than "love lift us up".

I have a few to add...

The first is a silly Disney pop song... However, it's simple and straightforward, and can easily be seen as a praise song to God... It's "More Than Me (acoustic version)" by Jordan Cahill from Stuck In The Suburbs:

Video Here

nananana...

Ooh you take away the lonely pain
Oh yeah and you help me rise above The flames
Uh huh
I've been so lost baby
Now i'm found since you've been Around

(chorus)
I never dreamed
That someone could see
Right through who I was into
All I could be
Only your love can make me believe
I can be somethin more
So much more than me

Oooh
I hardly recognize myself
And I know
That I'd be lost without your help
I feel a promise of a brand new day
And now I wake up
And I say

(chorus)
I never dreamed
That someone could see
Right through who I was into
All I could be
Only your love can make me believe
I can be something more
So much more than

More than any man has ever been
Now I feel like
I'm alive again
(There's) nothin in this world that
I can't do
Everyday that goes by
I'm livin my life for you

Nanana

(chorus)
I never dreamed
That someone could see
Right through who I was into
All I could be
Only your love can make me believe
I can be something more
So much more than me
(x2)

So much more than me

The second is also a silly Disney pop song... It's from the same movie... To me it represents someone who is tired of living a life that is not satisfying and wants to give their life to Jesus. It's "Take Me Back Home" by Greg Raposo:

Video Here

I'm reaching deeper down inside of me
For answers to questions, honesty
I feel like I've fallen from a state of grace
I know that I can't run from my mistakes

(chorus)
Where do you go when you've gone too far
You open up your arms
I want to believe that love has the heart to
Take me home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home

Forgiveness, a sweet kiss is all I need from you
So hold me, 'cuz only you can pull me through
I'm fighting, I'm crying, calling out your name
I want to live a life that shows a change

(chorus)
Where do you go when you've gone too far
You open up your arms
I want to believe that love has the heart to
Take me home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home

(chorus)
Where do you go when you've gone too far
You open up your arms
I want to believe that love has the heart to
Take me home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home

(Where do you go)
When the lies have consumed you
So thick you can hardly move through
(Where do you go)
When you don't recognize your face
You pray for redemption day

I know that I can't run from my mistakes

(chorus)
Where do you go when you've gone too far
You open up your arms
I want to believe that love has the heart to
Take me home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home
Take me back home

The third is easily recognizable... It's "We Believe" by Good Charlotte:

Video Here

There's a woman crying out tonight
Her world has changed
She asks God why
Her only son has died
And now her daughter cries
She can't sleep at night

Downtown another day for all the suits and ties
Another war to fight
There's no regard for life
How do they sleep at night
How can we make things right
Just wanna make this right

We believe(x6)
In this love

We are all the same
Human in all our ways and all our pains
(So let it be)
There's a love that could fall down like rain
(Let us see)
Let forgiveness wash away the pain
(What we need)
And no one really knows what they are searching for
(We believe)
This world is crying for so much more

We believe(x6)
In this love

We believe(x5)
In this love

So this world is too much for you to take
Just lay it down and follow me
I'll be everything you need
In everyway

We believe(x6)
In this love
In this love
We believe
In this love
We believe
In this love
We believe
In this love

To me, the bridge (in bold) is a strong representation of what God is saying to all of us! :amen:

Hope you enjoyed the lyrics and videos!

Well since Creed is under secular and not listed as christian. I will say pretty much all of their songs. If you have their greatest hits cd, I promise you will not be displeased. Every song on their is fantastic!

I really like Creed a lot, too. Scott Stapp's voice is awesome!
