  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any Sailor Moon fans?

Sailor Moon is the title of a Japanese media franchise created by Naoko Takeuchi. Fred Patten credits Takeuchi with popularizing the concept of a sentai ("team") of magical girls, and Paul Gravett credits the series with "revitalizing" the magical girl genre itself. It also redefined the genre, as previous Magical Girls did not use their powers to fight evil, but it is now considered one of the standard Archtypes of the genre.

The story of the various metaseries revolves around the reincarnated defenders of a kingdom that once spanned the solar system, and around the evil forces that they battle. The major characters—the Sailor Senshi (literally "Sailor Soldiers"; frequently called "Sailor Scouts" in many Western versions), teenage girls—can transform into heroines named for the moon and planets (Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, etc). The use of "Sailor" comes from a style of girls' school uniform popular in Japan, the sērā fuku (sailor outfit), after which the Senshi's uniforms are modeled. The elements of fantasy in the series are heavily symbolic and often based on mythology.

Before the Sailor Moon manga appeared Takeuchi had written Codename: Sailor V, which centered around just one Sailor Senshi. She devised the idea when she wanted to create a cute series about girls in outer space, and her editor asked her to put them in sailor fuku. When Sailor V was proposed for adaptation into an anime, the concept was modified so that Sailor V herself became only one member of a team. The resulting manga series merged elements of the popular magical girl genre and the Super Sentai Series which Takeuchi admired, making Sailor Moon one of the first series ever to combine the two.

The manga resulted in spinoffs into other types of media, including a highly popular anime, as well as musical theatre productions, video games, and a tokusatsu series. Although most concepts in the many versions overlap, often notable differences occur, and thus continuity between the different formats is limited.

When I first watched it, I was a fan of show. It's also the show where I first exposed to anime. :D
Even though I think of it as being overly girlie and focused too much on romance, I like how it showed friendship between girls.

Hmm... I just noticed only females have confessed to liking it so far...

Well, it has been many years since I have watched it, but it was the first anime I ever watched, which I watched when I was quite a little kid.

I have a couple of times contemplated going through the entire series so I can say I watched all of it, but I just don't have the time right now.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the lesbian relationship between Uranus and Neptune.
Oh yeah, perhaps some people aren't aware of that since in the US version they're written as cousins. I guess incest is better than a lesbian relationship.
I'm kind of surprised that no one mentioned Sailor Starlights, where you have guys transforming into girls.

I love gender bending. ;)

I used to watch that show when I was in 5th grade. It'd come on EVERY weekday morning on our local UPN station at 7 AM [then later on USA network]. I got picked on and called 'gay' for it. Whoopty smeggin' doo, not like i was gonna pretend to be a girl like that.

Although it got cancelled on USA and UPN, I was grateful to see it again on Cartoon network [mainly because they would show the episodes that the other 2 networks would not].

About Haruka and Michiru/Michelle, I could see the lesbianism from a mile away.

speakin' o genderbending/lesbianism, If you're against that, do not watch "Simoun", lots of it.

Oh I forgot to mention the homosexual relationship with Zoisite and Kunzite. :D:D Yeah DiC changed Zoisite's gender, making her a woman.

I'm not entirely surprise that guys watch it. The show was known for mixing in it's 'shonen tone.' I'm guessing that means the violence and such.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Actually, my little sister used to watch it while eating cereal before school, so I got some exposure to it. Then one day one of the cats said an unfilter 'b' word and my mother nixed that habit of hers.

OK...here's a true confession:

My husband and I discovered Sailor Moon together; we'd been married almost 10 years when we came across it on TV. We both loved it and would watch it together every day.

We've also hooked our young daughters on it.

Unfortunately, we only have the first 3 seasons on videotape (painstakingly recorded by us), but we DID get the 3 movies, also on tape. I tried to xfer the series onto DVD, but I would need a few hours of uninturrupted time to do that, and that's impossible with an 8-year-old and almost-6-year-old.

If it would help I know animeseason.com has all of the series on their website for viewing. I don't think they have the movies up. It's listed in the B's under Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon :)
