  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Friend Liz, as far as I know there are no metings that require everyone to be in plain dress. Plain Friends usually attend conservative meetings and those are scattered across the country and in some foriegn countries as well. Most plain friends are associated with Ohio Yearly Meeting in Ohio but I'm afraid our numbers are dwindling. At yearly meeting last year I observed only about 20 plain friends in attendance. There are more but we are certainly in the minority. My computer skills are greatly lacking but I would suggest a GOOGLE image search of plain Quakers. Thank thee for thy time.

I attend a meeting that I would call pretty liberal (it's also un programmed) and we have people who I guess would be considered Plain Friends (they wear plain dress anyway).
It's actually really wonderful that we have all different people come together at out meeting and worship.

Hello, plain friends exist mainly in the consevative branch. We are led to plain dress and speech. Primitive friends practice our faith (Quakerism) the way it was founded, unchanged. This means no music, dancing , photos, cars, electricity, etc. They live much the same as the amish, but much much more strictly. I thank thee for asking and hope this helps.
Thank thee for answering.:) It is a joy to *hear* plain speech used.
