Whether it be Tom Clancy, Mario Puzo, Huxley, C.S. Lewis, or any wide range of political books (I'm a political science major), I have a weird habit of reading a book halfway through and stopping, never to pick up the book again. No matter how much I love the book, it happens every time. I have no idea why I do it... anyway, anyone else a weirdo like me, or am I all by myself here?

I know quite a few people that do that...But me..no I don't do that..I have a couple times just because the book was too boring to me. but if its a really good book and I just put it down never to read the last of it, not knowing how it ended would irritate me to much I think.

I'm guessing that you're just reading a book you don't truly enjoy. I've done this several times. Some of the books include:

Dostoevsky - "Crime and Punishment"
Melville - "The Confidence Man"
Melville - "Moby Dick"
Plato - "The Republic"
Russel - "Why I Am Not a Christian"
Rand - "Philosophy: Who Needs It"
Schlosser - "Reefer Madness"

And so on. I couldn't finish these books, but somehow was able to choke down "Atlas Shrugged," "Naming the Beast" and any other number of terrible books. I knew they were bad, but I enjoyed reading them just the same. You might pick these books up right where you left off someday.

I don't know, The Family by Mario Puzo was really good, but I got to exactly the middle and stopped. It's never 1/4 or 3/4, it's always 1/2. It's just weird. I've only read one book twice, Nightwatch by Richard Henrick, which in itself is weird, because I can't even stand to watch movies twice, and they only take an hour and a half.

Oh and your avatar makes my brain hurt :(

Once I start a book, I usually feel obligated to finish it, even if it sits on a shelf for months. I think I've finally met my match, though; I have forced my way through 3/4 of this one book and cannot bring myself to finish it--it's just so terrible. It's currently hiding behind the rest of the books on my shelf so that I don't have to look at it and be reminded that it is still sitting there, waiting to be finished.

I actually sort of liked Crime and Punishment. Some parts of it, anyway. The nightmares were really interesting...but I think the climax was the only enjoyable part of the book.

Anyway, back on topic, I do it, too. I read a lot of books, and if I reach a part of the book that depresses me (one of my favorite characters die, etc.), I'll stop reading it. I do usually pick it up later, though, even if it is a few years down the line.
