  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any G-Unit fans in the hizzouse?

I semi-agree, but who wants to turn this into a "who can drop the most names of underground hiphop heads" contest?
I just wanted to know if he listened to other rappers, that's all. He can't argue G-Unit has the greatest lyrics ever if that's all he listens to.

This is what is wrong with hip-hop: people who are convinced that they are the only ones who know what real "hip hop" is, people that are convinced that there are no passionate, talented rappers today, and people that think "Ghetto cred" is important.

Yea, me being a white suburban kid makes me unable to do anything cool, because apparently I don't know what struggle is. Yea, I have a gold life but no matter what I do, I can always be stereotyped as a poser.

real hip hop-
Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, 2pac, Roots, Outkast, Slick Rick, Big Daddy Kane,Rakim,A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurrassic 5 Hieroglyphics,Jay-Z, Atmosphere, Sage Francis, etc.. alot of great mc's that ppl never heard of because of ignorance or laziness.

pop rap garbage: 50 cent, g-unit,eminen,chingy, nelly, p.diddy.i liked eminen's first two underground albums however.

stop listening to fake rap on the radio, bet, or mtv. there are better alternatives

do you guys even know the difference between hip hop and rap?
well since i was the hip hop club president at Columbia University(Ivy League), i will drop some knowledge.

Historically, rap music comes from hip-hop culture. The roots of rap music trace back to the Jamaican ska era of the mid-60s. MCs rapping over party music made its way to New York a decade later, thanks to DJ Kool Herc, a man many crown the "Father of Hip Hop." Kool Herc emigrated from Jamaica to New York in 1967 and helped give birth to the hip-hop culture that would continue to thrive and spread.
Sugar Hill Gang's 1979 "Rapper's Delight" was the first breakthrough rap hit, it emerged from a "an inner-city phenomenon centering on DJs and including equal proportions of break dancing, MCing, and graffiti art."

More recently, "rap" has been used to describe the aggressive, mass-market produced music of Nas or Eminem. But "Not all music that has rapping in it, however, is actually rap music, and not all hip-hop music has rapping in it." Artists like Jurassic 5 and De La Soul typify hip-hop music, which is generally more multi-instrumented and less in-your-face.

Rap and hip-hop music is now a huge industry, and it has the diversity of a huge industry. There's Christian rap, Latin rap, southern rap.

Hip Hop is a way of living and a whole subculture.

To elaborate, I'd also say hip hop is taking an interest in the society around you and issues that affect people, such as racism, taxation of the poor, wellfare, police brutality etc etc and being aware of what's going on.

Another big part of hip hop is making your community better, whether being involved with the local music scene and helping out young talent and giving fans a good alternative to bein out on the streets for an evening, or getting involved with some other aspect, it's also something a lot of people see as important

peace

Michael, your post made absolutely no sense, what are you trying to say? People can talk about rap music if they want to, it's on the secular music part of the board anyway.

And to the dude that said I was a wannabe, NO I am not, you do not know me in person, so thats a pretty ignorant statement. Eminem and G-unit is my style, and I consider them to be very good, and that's my opinion, SO RESPECT IT! I never dissed your favorite rapper or singer, so what's the big deal? We all have different tastes, we're not all the same dude, learn it and move on with life. I am no way like those "girls" that you mentioned, I'm not THAT crazy, lol.

If you aren't going to be respectful, then get the heck outta here and learn some manners, that's all I have to say.
Slim, you gotta realize that this is a public forum. People are allowed to post their thoughts and opinions on different matters. You cannot forbid someone from posting in your thread, because they may not agree with you.

But at the same time, you have no problem jumpin on someone else's back if you dont like what they are saying.
You come to a PUBLIC forum, for PUBLIC discussion and debate.
If you dont like that other people might not like Em and 50 cent and whoever else, and you dont want them posting in here, I would suggest that perhaps you find a forum that you can discuss these bands without worrying about other people offending you, or not agreeing with you, or whatever.

But as long as you are here, in a public forum, you cannot stop people or ask people to stop posting in your threads.

Yes, I have no problem with people posting their opinions on this topic, AS LONG as they aren't trolling/flaming. I've seen several posts on this topic here by people that say go along the lines of "om g 50 cent and Eminem are teh evilest people in the world they worship Satan don't listen to them they will make you go crazy etc etc..." Because that's considered trolling, and I've heard that is frowned upon here.

Now, I don't mind the people that post here saying they just don't like them and end it there. People may share their opinions, but when they go wacko crazy and start spewing hate towards certain music artists, then that's when something needs to be done. I even said in my VEERRRYY first post that I did not want people making explicitly hateful posts. That's infringing on the beliefs of others. I'm just trying to keep the peace here, and prevent a huge argument from blowing up.

The day you can quote that some actually said on this thread that 50 cent and Satan are affiliated is the day I'll marry a man. It's just not going to happen.

P.S. There's nothing you can do about "hateful posts". You're talking about rap. Expect these things.

Dude, It was just a figure of speech, I was exaggerating a little bit. Calm down.
This is the secular music forum anyway, I can talk about rap music if I want.
And aren't you supposed to be a Christian to post on this site?
You just ruined a great thread. Great job.

Dude, no. That was not a pwn. hahaha

First off, no one's stopping you from talking about rap and at the same time you shouldn't have the authority to govern over anyone else's opinion.

PWN NO. 1

Second, A. This section is for all members and, it's not that I'm not Christian, I'm just going through tough times in my life. Of course, if you're truly a Christian, you wouldn't hold these things against me like you just did.

PWN NO. 2

Three, this thread was never great because everyone argued and 25% of the people who posted on this thread said something positive about rap. Any rap thread is ruined before it is even started.

PWN NO. 3... YOU'RE OUT!

No can a mod PLEASE remove this thread before I get aggressive and kicked off of CF? lol Thanks.

There have been many rap threads at CF. On what grounds should this one be removed?

You've told a lot of people that the music they listen to is inferior. Please start a thread and enlighten the world on what is truely good.

lol EXACTLY

That's the point, champ! "pwn" is an overused and silly thing to say. Mock with me, folks!

And as for blackwasp's post, I've only said rap is inferior talentwise. Only rap. Maybe specific bands or artists, but...
