  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any G-Unit fans in the hizzouse?

Pac was real? Pac didn't have a criminal record until he released a record. He may have released some moderately culturally aware tracks, and I concede that he could have been so much more than the gangsta rapper he was, but he was one of many that turned mainstream rap into bling and guns for the most part.

What a bunch of lame, suburban-thug wanna-be's.

You wouldn't know real rap if it slapped you in the face.

Stop watching BET. I SAID STOP IT !!

" No son, Jay-Z is the realest, Eminem is my idol, Lil Jon is the hardest, Outkast is the coolest, T.I. is the roughest and I want to move to New York City so I can be a rapper, Michael713 "

Rap has no business being on this website, unless its the topic of critical discussion, and thats coming from someone who listens to it, so I think I have the right to protest it on a Christian website.

I wish we could meet in person, so I could do my own rendition of "Scared Straight." ;)

Now reply to me with your internet-gangster responses (on a Christian website) and be true to the description I used above, I've seen it before and I know I'm about to see it again.

Moderators, I'm sorry, but these kids don't know what its like outside the suburbs, but they think they do.

Michael, your post made absolutely no sense, what are you trying to say? People can talk about rap music if they want to, it's on the secular music part of the board anyway.

And to the dude that said I was a wannabe, NO I am not, you do not know me in person, so thats a pretty ignorant statement. Eminem and G-unit is my style, and I consider them to be very good, and that's my opinion, SO RESPECT IT! I never dissed your favorite rapper or singer, so what's the big deal? We all have different tastes, we're not all the same dude, learn it and move on with life. I am no way like those "girls" that you mentioned, I'm not THAT crazy, lol.

If you aren't going to be respectful, then get the heck outta here and learn some manners, that's all I have to say.

Okay, then. I'm sorry for the whole wanna-be thing. Let's discuss hip-hop then. You seem to know a lot about it. Do you like anyone else besides G-Unit or Em? Have you heard, I dunno...Company Flow, or Thirstin' Howl III, or maybe Rakim, or Prodigy, one of the most underrated lyricists in the "game", or anything that's not in regular rotation in MTV or BET? Or even some ol' school Wu-Tang?

It's kind of odd that I'm coming to the defense here, seeing as I despise MTV and most of current music. Now I'm personally not a big rap fan. I loved Public Enemy, Schooly D, and Eminem's first album and that's about it.

Some of you are being completely unfair to the original poster. The wannabe comment was taken back, but it shouldn't have been made in the first place. The OP never said he was a thug or that his rap was the "real rap". Music is music people. It may have evolved and you may view it as contaminated and fake, but you can't disrespect a fan who sees it differently than you.

And yes, rap portrays terrible messages. Rock has it's flaws too. Bands like Guns N Roses aren't exactly glorifying God either. (This coming from a huge rock fan.) So if you are going to make comments about a certain secular music type, realize that the same type of message is being portrayed in many other popular music genres besides the one you're referring to. Just like there's unacceptable rap, there's unacceptable rock, punk etc.

Exactly! Great post! That's what I was originally trying to say, thanks.

Will someone please remove this forum. hahahahaha

P.S. You can't label rap as "the greatest genre ever", announce it to the world, and then make anti-rap posts forbidden. For there shall be those like me who study music theory that could easily pwn you within a post. P.S. Game said quote "Modern hiphop sucks". SlimShady JB said quote "He most have meant something else". I say quote "No he didn't". Modern hip hop is purely for fashion and popularity and money and women. Clearly. Old school rap (70's/80's) was all about the passion. They actually went through real life hardships. Most of the rappers today went through a middle class life, mediocre at worse. There's a fine line between "ghetto" and "bad side of the suburbs".

P.S. You're better off stepping down and not replying to this harshly, SlimShadyJB. I have a license in music theory and I'm not afraid to use it...

What happened to the days where rappers got 5 bucks to rap on the streets by the liquor store rather than now where they get multi-million dollar contracts to sing in a vocal system that polishes over the cracks and mistakes on the songs they didn't even write?

This is what is wrong with hip-hop: people who are convinced that they are the only ones who know what real "hip hop" is, people that are convinced that there are no passionate, talented rappers today, and people that think "Ghetto cred" is important.

I semi-agree, but who wants to turn this into a "who can drop the most names of underground hiphop heads" contest?

Agreed. Also, what does a knowledge of music theory have to do with knowing what music is better than other music?

Who said anything about better, blackwasp? Oh, right, NOBODY. Though it has to do with significant and insignificant musical blurbs. PWNED AGAIN.

I've pwned blackwasp like 6 times in a two hour span. You should really stop trying. hahahaha
