  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any G-Unit fans in the hizzouse?

Sup, it's me, one of the few secular rap fans on this site, I was just wondering if there are any fans of G-Unit up in here? I started listening to them after I got their first CD and they sound good. Fifty Cent gets my vote for best member, but Lloyd Banks is good too, so is Young Buck.

I just got Game's and Young Buck's albums today at the mall, I've listened to them and Game sounds really good. He is supposed to be the newest member of G-Unit. I just started listening to Buck's album, "Straight outta cashville", so far it's aight.

I'm just wonderin` what you guys think. No anti-rap posts or trying to start a fight, please.

I remember the thread that we had about sell-outs not too long ago, and it seemed like the main targets were rock bands. I was flipping through channels earlier in the week and noticed that the Game was on TRL. This seems odd to me how groups like G-Unit, who have been shot numerous times and have had very rough lives, release albums that are so easily embraced by the preteen white female crowd as evidenced by TRL. There was also an interview with the Game in the newest Rolling Stone where he said, "Modern hip-hop pretty much sucks." I can't speak for others, but I have a hard time listening to groups like G-Unit that show very little progress musically/lyrically and seem to just be releasing albums to get rich. Whatever happened to groups like NWA and Public Enemy?

I'm not going to lie, I listen to RAP music, but it goes against alot of beliefs I have since its extremely materialistic and immoral, and, well, evil.

Just stop listening to hip-hop/rap in general b/c its all garbage. The thing that keeps me hooked is the gritty, sad, and evil side to it. It reminds me of the lives people live and how much they need God and Jesus, but I admit, that is no excuse for me to listen to it, but I've listened to it since I was 12. Warren G "G Funk Era" was my first rap tape I owned. I still got it too.

I call all the garbage on the radio "hip-pop" and I have no problem steering clear of it, but the hard part is switching to a new type of music. I have ALOT of rap cd's and its almost all Texas artists since I'm from Houston. But anyway, if you like another type of music thats a little more positive, I suggest you start getting rid of your rap/hip-hop albums and switch.

You don't want to live (or even START to live) the type of life the artists in the rap/hip-hop industry live.;)

Well blackwasp I've never seen that interview on TV, and it's kind of hard to believe that he would actually say something like that, dissing the music he grew up on. I bought his new CD today called "The Documentary" and in almost all the songs he says he is with and supports G-Unit, he even signed to their record label i believe, so yeah.

It is true he is a fan of old rap such as NWA and Tupac and Dr. Dre. I think he probably meant in the interview that modern rap is ok but old-school rap was better. I personally prefer the modern type rap, but whatever, rap is rap, doesn't matter to me how old it is, I'll listen to it.

*Sigh*

Michael...read the last paragraph of my first post. NO ANTI-RAP POSTS. You're telling people to stop listening to what they like? Come on. I don't want a huge argument flaring up. It's fine that you don't prefer rap music, just keep it to yourself this time, okay homie? This is the secular music forum anyway, so this topic is all perfectly legal. Maybe you didn't know that, so I'm just pointing that out.

You used to be a rap fan, but you quit? Why dude, why?

G-Unit is mediocre at best. Actually, they aren't really that good either. Lyrics are weak and they seem to have no flow. Sounds a lot like the rap game today, and I'm a huge rap fan.

Well, that's your opinion, and I respect that, but I find it hard to believe at the same time. D you have "Get Rich Or Die Trying" by Fifty Cent, or Lloyd Banks CD? I consider those lyrics to be some of the best ever....so if you haven't checked those out I'd recommend them. Oh, and G-Unit's debut album Beg For Mercy was good, too.

Not even close. Statements like that are just a slap in the face to pioneers like 2Pac, Biggie, Nas, Rakim..etc. I respect your opinion as well though, but when you say best ever it leads me to believe you haven't listened to any of those artists I've mentioned.

My bad, I meant that they are ONE of the best, they arent legends yet like Tupac, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Notorious BIG and older rap groups like that will always be the best, I agree w/ that. I meant that rappers of today (Eminem, D-12, G-Unit, Jay-Z,) are the best upcoming and fastest rising stars of today, they have great potential and they DO have many skills, no doubt and someday soon they will be considered legends.

Guys, can we please not be so negative to each other's opinion? If you don't consider yourself a fan of G-unit, and don't have anything helpful to add to the discussion, please consider not posting in this thread. Slim, the mods shall be keeping an eye on this thread to see where it goes, but if there are any posts that you don't agree with, please show them grace and respect even if you consider that post an anti-rap post, and if the post breaks any rules we will deal with it. Discussions like this will only work if people are not trading simple petty insults, but contributing to a healthy dialogue about the thread topic. :)

Hi, I disagree. There are much better rap lyrics out there.

Hey everyone!!!
I listen rock, rap, country, salsa, pop, and r&b. Yes, I agree that the lyrics are inapropriate most of the time and not allways God-honoring. To tell you the truth, most of the time it's just the beat that i even hear. I don't see anything wrong with listening to the music and getting pumped up. The only thing I don't like is when they take the lifestyle and think they are all pimp tryin to act like 50. A lot of teens listen to this music and begin to take on that lifestyle, especially guys:(. All the guys at my school do! Knowing that, I give slimshadyJB props for not shutting out on God:thumbsup: . The way I see it, not one guys from my (Christian) school would be caught dead on a Christian site making his Christianity known. The fact that he is on here gives me hope:) As long as he keeps the light for God shinning and doesn't promote the pimpness it should be cool. I mean i'm only 15, still young and learning, so I could be wrong. Thats just the way I see it. Strate up SlimJB!!!:)
xoxo ~God Bless~
~Kati~

P.S. Hey SlimJB, I'm droppin it Miami style and letting u know that I'm praying that we young people can listen to our jamz while keepin our passion for the Lord. Cause I would really hate to give up my jamz.

Because Banks is cooler than the other side of the pillow?

Pac was a generic gangsta rapper.

I agree almost 100% execept for the NWA comment; they made gangsta rap popular, and they are one of the reason groups like G-Unit and rappers like Ja Rule are popular.
