  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any Computer programmers out there?

do assembler languages vary much from machine to machine?

Yes, an assembler program for x86 will not work on a PPC. Also, different compilers have differences as well. MASM and TASM have some notable differences. it's been a long time since I worked with ASM, but I do remeber how tedious it was. For instance, "Hello. World!" was 25 lines or so. In c++ I did it in under 5 lines.

I have programmed in VB, C++, Delphi, PHP and SQL. Not the best at it, but for fun.

i can do: c, c++, c#, basic, vb, pascal, object pascal, delphi, php, html, xhtml, css, java, cobol, natural, assembler for the x86 (did i miss anything?).

i prefer to do: c++, object pascal/delphi, php, xhtml, css.

vb is for babies, it's not real programming.

assembler is the coolest programming language ever.

there's nothing more beautiful than an awesome block of code that works 100%

I never went to school to learn Java although I attended a short introductory course at Sun Educational Services. I even have a genuine Sun jean jacket and mouse pad to prove it. Java is a nice logical "evolution" from C. All the C-inbetweens are just hatchet-jobs. I'm really big on how nice a language actually "looks" on the screen - like the aesthetics of the code. Plain old C by far is the prettiest code. And compared to assembler it was a huge step forward. But Java can look quite nice too.
