  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Any advice

I want to be an animator but many say that not christian. I as a kid have often had dreams of wonderful stories. Even thought they were myths all had christian elements. To me if you can't get people to listen to you than why not teach the message of god in cartoons that don't actually have anything to doo with God. I have been inspire by more animators and comic writers. I love adventure time, sailor moon, wonder woman, and more other cartoons. I have always had a passion to draw, write and tell stories yet people telling me I'm wrong for writing stories that have magic. If God showed me my skills at aa early age what's wrong with wanted to use the skills when I prayed if he wanted me to be an animator than let me get into my dream college and I did.

I don't see a problem with it. It is not always possible to work in a Christian environment. And it is better that way; Jesus did not look for Christian hubs all the time, he mingled with everyone.

And C.S. Lewis wrote entertaining children books full of fantasy and mythological elements (saters, centaurs, talking animals, magic, witches, portals to other worlds, etc.). Imagination is a wonderful gift. God used His to create us and the world. Why shouldn't we use our imagination to create stories? Also, kids can handle stuff. They look at things with innocent eyes. The adults are often the people who look for deeper meanings and what not.

They look for a deeper meaning into Looney Tunes? Wow, that is kind of pushing it xD

As a kid I watched Dungeons & Dragons. Only adults would start linking magic to evil and bad influence, while as kid you just like seeing the action, the adventures and so on.

Disney movies also have magic in them. So far, no generation was corrupted by it. In fact, people remember them fondly and are fine with them. Maybe you could use Disney as example where fantastical elements only brought joy while showing a classic story about good vs. evil and some morals.

I also read scary children books (also other genres) and I came out pretty okay ;). It really depends on the person. I knew messing with the occult was bad and I was never tempted to join into "trying to call spirits" games at school, even if they did it for "fun". So whatever I read in books, I never tried to emulate. I am sure most people seperate fiction from reality.

If you know right from wrong, your limits and the difference between fiction and reality, there shouldn't be a problem. I wish people would understand that. Cartoons can be enjoyable to watch after all and I have fond memories of them.

Yeah it was this crazy christian forum saying how they would lock up their children if loony tunes comes out and how Bugs dressing out as a woman was gay and how pepe le pew was teaching kids to have sex. I find this silly and some people do find Disney movies evil but it's a small view. I mean kids are smart than people give them credit for.

I did find Pepe slightly unnerving, because the poor cat was never able to escape him, but I also liked his romantic antics. And obviously they know very little about homosexuality. Dressing up is not the same as feeling attracted to the same gender.

That Christian forum sounds like a forum that infamous Christian cult-ish family would love. I forgot their name, but they picket funerals of soldiers and protest with hate signs.

I would avoid that forum. Everyone has their own opinion, but there is a point when certain views are too extreme. I would say that their point of view seems stifled, somewhat paranoid, focused on the possible negatives, busy seeking the hidden enemy at places where there is none.

If you want to be a animator and can make a living out of it, go for it. It is good to make use of your talents and interests (if you can make it work in your life) and there is nothing inherently good or bad about animation. It all depends on the story and how it is conveyed.
