Chill buddy chill, it's gonna be Ok, I'm not calling you a heritic at all, it was a joke, so don't worry about it, if you want to call me a heretic or tell me i'm not welcome just because i'm not as superior and knowledge as you, so be it.

I remember what my minister said about Dave Hunt and his arguing style against Calvinists. His argument ad hominem against them anytime he doesn't know the answer is to call the Calvinist an elitist.

but... as you said, Calvinists tend to be well versed in scripture so it was quite a jab to claim the Bible is contrary to everything we believe when you may not know that to be the case.

I think this web site is very helpful for those who have the time and commitment to thoroughly search out the background to our understanding of God's grace.

It is a web site that has the works of one Jacobus Arminius (3 vol's in books),I haven't got his works so I find this site helpful.

The works of James Arminius.

Get polishing and sharpening that sword.

I don't even know what an "elitist" is unless maybe your talking about hyper-calvinism, otherwise, i have no idea.

didn't think it the tension could get this tight over a little joke like that. I've been called a heretic plenty of times, i have no problem with people trying to riducle me for my beliefs, and in no way was a serious when i said 'the bible' so i think we can all hopefully relax.

Believe me calvinists have done there fare shair of "jabbing" at me and my beliefs, but it doesn't bother me, I enjoy the challenge, and i have always been intrigued by calvinism because i never can seem to understand it, so sorry if i come to your board.

Elitist in this context means a person who believes they have higher knowledge of the Bible and are using that knowledge in a way that is not loving toward the "weaker" bretheren.

As to this tension, I am more than willing to forgive you, in fact I do. But I would not go on justifying your joke because such statements may be made in a joking fashion, but they are veiled insults.

This Calvinist hasn't jabbed you or mocked your beliefs. If you and I were visiting and you told me that I wasn't saved because I haven't been baptised in the name of Christ and Christ alone, I would show you from scripture that you are mistaken. If you feared going to hell by losing your salvation and not picking it up again before you died, I would try to comfort you by showing you scriptures that prove that salvation cannot be lost. If you tried to convince me that salvation is an individual's choice, I would show you from scripture that it is not. However, I would not jabb or mock you.

Guys, im no staunt calvinist nor armenianist one way or the other... But the one thing (and this really is the only thing) i dont like about the Reformed church (and my gf's church) is the idea of: "Get polishing and sharpening that sword." promoted constantly in this thread... seriously from an outside perspective it looks as though your sole purpose to reading the bible is to get really good arguements and ammunition to use against the evil armenianists... The real 'enemy' is out there, not within the Christian church... sharpen your swords for that...

Arminianism , or to give it an older title , Pelegianism is NOT the Gospel , it changes Grace into man's work and efforts , and turns God into an impotent controllable Genie.
I'm off to sharpen my 2 swords be back later! ;)

Having a water tight theology is prevelant in the Reformed camp, however I think it's merited by the circumstances. We view it as THE Gospel, and the other vastly taught Gospels are those that Paul refers to in quite a negative way.

Calvinist are the minority, people have gotten so far away from the scriptures, we must be well versed and have good apologetics. If we can't show people clearly from the scriptures where they are wrong, and can only used subjective opinion and stories, we lose, er the true Gospel as taught by Jesus, and clearly expounded upon by Paul, loses.
