ever since, I was a lad, (aged ten years)
as far I could tell ... I walked 'Alone' !

I'd prayed and prayed
and 'it' just went! on and on

aged fifteen
I had put on size and weight
and had learned HOW to hop skip and jump ffast

so, to avoid 'aimed shoes' with-feet
in them
and could fend off incoming parent
with glass lemonade bottle gripped by the neck
as-if, it were an axe

I let the ten commandments guard my behaviour
(always!!)
I became a soldier (Regular) Aged 16
by 'using the brains' I have been blessed-with

I needed 'Parental-Consent'
to be: eligible for enlistment (?)
the only problem I then had
between: where I was and the outside world
I need a bed food shelter company a-LIFE!
what could a boy devise, so to scale the wall to OUTSIDE
[with hindsight it was Tough Love that set alight survival-instincts]

My old fella ? used-to often shout
in-response to my sobbing (?)

"hurry-up and join the army....
it will, make a man out of you"


I said to the enlistment officer...
that I really was KEEN
to get away from the dominant BRUTE
I had for a Father (all TRUE)
and that if he were to mention during the interview
my Dad's WWII service as a Red Devil (101st Ind Paras)
and that his son says
that he OFTEN (lol)
urged the lad to join up also
AND THAT with the lad being so keen
to follow in his Daddy's footsteps
"WELL! he must be very proud of his Dad ???

so?

I took-up wing-chun (for defence of-course)
I equipped-myself, with a "Ring Of Confidence"

My ability to trust a smile
took hammer blows straight to the heart...
I'd only been 'me'

Okay I didnt speak with Him for years
Now I know he hears and knows
what brings me joy
and _p e a c e __is mine also

I dont CRY > over what has happened to me
though I often would succumb to deep sorrow and grief
for a 'lost-cause' to which, I had given my heart

Do I know what's good for-me ? Do I ?
I live for Today and what tomorrow may promise me
I feel wonderful today!
