  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you accept the worse afterlife your belief system or lack thereof offers in order to convert every other human on Earth to your belief system or lack thereof?

For example, would you go to Hell to convert everyone to Christianity?
And yes, I am aware of the fact that atheists have an easier time with this than most others. But I'm okay with that, surprisingly.

I voted no, simply because of one reason. If a person cannot believe in heaven or hell, the end destination of myself is not going to change that. If they ignore the Holy Spirit over and over again, why must I incur the wrath of God when they refuse to obey? Christianity is about a choice and the only one who would make a deal such as this is Satan.

As an agnostic atheist, the worst (and imo, the only possible) postmortem fate for me is that I cease to exist. So yes, I'd accept this fate (I pretty much already have) in order to do away with Islam, Christianity and the like. What an easy question.

Anyone who says they'd be willing to endure the most painful form of torture (both physically and psychologically I'd imagine) for eternity is being somewhat naive and disingenuous. I surmise they've never been tortured (even midly tortured, which is a far cry from what an omnipotent deity would inflict I'm sure) and would regret the decision after a few hours or a few days or a few weeks.

I'm an athiest. I would not. What would be the point? It would remove ethical basis for quite a few people (mostly Christians), it would remove peace of mind from many more, and in general probably wouldn't be a good idea. I do think that most people have to have faith in something, it's just that "something" varies from person to person. You may choose to have faith in your God. I choose to have faith in myself and the people around me.

It's also kinda immoral, and there's always the chance that Athiesm is indeed, wrong. I mean...it's like the mass conversions they had way back when in Europe. Totally unethical. Leave things be.

I am not an athiest or a christian (or a buddhist or an agnostic or a muslim or a ....) so I guess for the sake of the Poll I am a "other".

And I voted NO!

lets say that somehow I do manage to make it in up there - if I wasnt worthy of going to heaven in the first place, why would I want to give up my spot in the Heavenly Lottery to someone who would be just as unworthy as I? Nope. they can either get lucky as I somehow apparently did or find some other way of gettin there thru whatever means to be had.

No. I don´t see any point in converting others to my belief system or lack thereof.

Conversion, the way you put it, seems so icky. It sounds like a massive brainwashing or snuffing out of personal choice.

I'd much rather people believe if they themselves find merit in it. How will it be meaningful or beneficial otherwise? And, really, there isn't any special about belief. It's what someone does (and how they do it) given what they believe that matters.

~

But back on topic... I think it's a fair trade for one person, so for every human on Earth is cake.

So you would support the banning of all religions?

If God wanted to just force everyone to convert He certainly has the power to do so. Instead He gave everyone free will and evidently thought it was extremely important since He knew it would lead Jesus to the cross. Why would I think I knew better and so do ANYTHING to cause "100% conversion"?

Not the banning, the removal. In this hypothetical question, taking the worst that death can offer automatically triggers everyone to accept the faith, or lack thereof, you follow. In case of a religion which is unknown to everyone, for example, an obscure African tribe with no contact with civilization wouldn't know jack about Christianity, they'd simply accept it as soon as it became known to them. Fortunately, anyone with any level of world knowledge can become atheist.

Uh, no. This is the real world. People should be allowed to think what they want, and the human mind is such that some people want to be religious.

Even in this hypothetical world/reality, people could think whatever they want. However, their minds would be altered to where they wouldn't desire/want to be religious because such a concept would be silly to all of them.

No. I don't have a "worse" afterlife and I don't want to convert everyone.
