  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know you aren't interested in questioning anything
Mind reading is a sure sign that discusion is bound to fail.

Call me paranoid if you wish.

Next time, I won't forget the tin foil hat.

And what are quote-mining, goalpost-shifting, and question-evading signs of?

I know you aren't interested in questioning anything Setterfield says, but when you imply that he's answered rather serious questions but nobody can FIND these answers, doesn't it make you think that perhaps Setterfield has been unable or unwilling to fully develop his hypotheses in the face of intelligent criticism?

Eck freeking zactly.

But, as you imply, if you are not a member of the club, you are not allowed to theorize. You are dismissed.

Its all well and good to propose a theory with emorous problems if it is conventional. Otherwise, forget it.
Anyone can propose a theory (hypothesis). If that theory has enormous problems, those problems will be pointed out. If those enormous problems are not addressed, the proposed theory becomes a refuted theory and is discarded. If those enormous problems are addressed and resolved, the theory lives to do battle another day.

Setterfield hypothesizes a scenario for changes on the earth which, according to 19th century thermodynamics, results in a molten earth. If this "enormous problem" can't be addressed, then the hypothesis is wrong and should be discarded. It should be discarded because the laws of thermodynamics say that his scenario is impossible. There is no need for a conspiracy here, unless the conspiracy lies in the laws of thermodynamics.
