  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for the welcome! I'd be glad to help with cooking suggestions Bulldog. BTW, I've had two bull dogs. More friendly than their name implies.

Hey - Jinnapiban Do you save seeds from the herbs? I started an herb garden last year. Didn't manage to save seeds yet. I'm adding quite a bit this year. We can trade seeds if you want. Saves money on seed orders. :)

Hey GG,

i didn't save the seeds.... we had to buy new this year. I would love to hear more info about "harvesting" them. I don't really know much about that.

I did manage to save my dill and some rosemary plants because we have such mild winters here in TX.

Take care,
jp

To save seeds from most herbs first requires identifying the flowers (not as easy as I thought at first). I grew Basil and did manage to ID the flowers. At the top of the branches are some clusters of what look like tiny leaves stuck together. That is what is left of the flowers. Pick those off, put them on a paper towel, cover with another paper towel and tape all the edges together. Put the paper towel dryer on a window ledge and let sit for a couple of months. The seeds will fully dry inside the flowers. When they are good and dry, cut the towel open and spread the flowers on a white sheet of paper. Identifying the seeds from leaves and misc bits is not easy when they are small like Basil. What I do is gently pry the flowers open or (if the seeds are tough) rub between my hands. Examine the mess on your table and the paper and chastise yourself for being so messy and having a weird hobby! Then scrape what looks to be seeds into a plastic bag with some of the paper towel to absorb any moisture. A few rounds of this and you'll become an old pro at it. A good suggestion for making sure the seeds stay dry is to save the silica gel packets from stuff you've bought. They should go in with the seeds in the plastic ziploc bag.

Try it with pepper seeds if you want to see it work out and know it works. They are easy.

BTW, if you want any seeds for this year - give me a yell. I have lots of peppers, tomatoes (messy job saving them), and some flowers too.

Um, Er, ... Not to be a wise guy, but what kinda pro help do you need? Does it involve talking about your childhood and looking at ink blots? Just kidding! With my job, I think I need that on a daily basis!

Just started a bunch of annuals in the back window. Told my wife I'd not need to. Oh well, the flowers are for her anyway.
