Then why does Scripture tell us it goes down?

“And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.” Genesis 15:12 KJV

I don't know maybe it's one of those verses that's not literal.

So either the sun goes down or it appears to go down - it can't be both.

Why would "when the sun went down ...." be any less literal than "then the sun stopped"?
Unless it's because one doesn't fit your theory but the other does?

"The sun went down" = "the sun set".
The sun appeared to go down" = "That's what it looked like, but I could have been mistaken."

If you think it could be the latter, you are saying that Moses may have written "when the sun went down" but in fact he didn't know for certain. It only looked as if it was going down.
That is what I said to you about the verse in Joshua. As Joshua was not in space he could not see the sun close up. From his perspective on earth it looked as though the sun had been moving and then stopped. In reality, it would have been the earth.

It's not confusing at all.....by proper Bible study.

But you claiming one minute that one verse is literal because it suits your belief (not any factual evidence) and then claiming another is not literal because it doesn't suit your belief (not any factual evidence) is just being inconsistent and hypocritical.

So did I, but you view Charles Duke as a liar (if you don’t then you can always refute it) based on nothing but your belief in a literal reading of certain Scriptures.

And then your inconsistent statements about Scripture comes to light when that is examined.

But you have said several times that at dusk, the sun gets further and further away, thus appearing smaller and smaller, until eventually it is invisible. This isn't what we observe - we see the sun gradually disappearing below the horizon, and looking larger at that time than it does at midday, not getting smaller and smaller until it disappears. ore importantly, the bible talks of the sun rising and setting, not getting smaller and smaller until it is invisible.

Thanks! Just to be sure I have understood you correctly, do you mean you were wrong in your earlier posts where you wrote about the sun appearing to get smaller and smaller at sunset, or wrong in your more recent posts where you have said that the sun does rise and set?

Don't be ridiculous.

The reason we talk about Charles Duke as much as we do is that you once saw a YouTube clip of his testimony and said that you "hand on heart" believed every word. You are now saying that he tells "fairy tales." He is a Christian and, furthermore, gives talks to unbelievers about his time on the moon and about Jesus. He said that going to the moon was not the most important thing in his life - following Jesus is the most important thing.
If you don't believe what he says is true, not only are you accusing a fellow Christian - one of God's children - of lying, presumably you no longer trust his Christian testimony. By implication, then, you don't entirely trust what he says about Jesus.
