The space race with Russia is what motivated going to the moon, but now that we know what is there, and what isn't, there is really no motivation to go back.
However, a moon base is on the near term agenda of several space agencies including NASA and the Indian space program.
It is also one of the reasons why Elon Musk is developing the massive Starship rockets
There does not appear to be any resources that could be mined in any remotely cost effective manner on the moon. The space race with Russia is what motivated going to the moon, but now that we know what is there, and what isn't, there is really no motivation to go back.
The main reason why there is renewed interest such as the Artemis Project is as a “stepping stone” to Mars, since if you can establish the infrastructure to support Lunar operations, the exploration of Mars becomes more tenable.
No! Not water. Cheese!I thought they were trying to find water on the moon.
Haven't you ever heard the song "twinke twinle little star, how I wonder what I are"?Why do you keep calling planets "wondering" stars? The word "Planet" comes from the Greek for "wandering", not "wondering"!

It's not just that you spelt it wrong, you always spell it wrong. It's been the name you consistently call planets in order to try to ridicule the reality, but you keep ridiculing yourself by using "wondering".So I spelt it wrong still means the same,

It's not your spelling. It's obvious that when you write "wondering" it's not that you misspelled "wandering", but that you intend to write "wondering" as that's the word you always use. You have also been told before about your use of this word and you still never use the correct word.So you think, your the one ridiculing yourself by picking me up on my spelling.
Just look at link you posted about the Lee Marvin song - the song title shows the correct spelling if you want to be sure of getting it right: "Wandering Star" (NOT "Wondering Star"). I hope that is helpful. So you think, your the one ridiculing yourself by picking me up on my spelling.
I can just about spell. Problem i have is my paws hit a couple of keys at a time on my keyboard!!
As for going back to the moon, it hasnt been a priority. NASA etc gained all the info about it on their trips there in the past. The only reason they are going back now is to see if it is worthwhile opening a McDonalds there!
