  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It seems like you may need some inner healing, or what is referred to as the healing of the memories. A lot of times, we suffer traumatic experiences early in life that profoundly affect us to the extent we lose control over our thought process and even our bodies. Anorexia is one of them. Jesus Christ is the one who can truly heal our minds, but he has handed the keys over to us.

A number of years ago, my pastor traveled to the orient on a mission trip and worked with a 11 or 13 year old girl dying of anorexia. She was only 75, maybe 80 Ibs. and wasn’t expected to live much longer. During the session, she was asked to revisit her past while the pastor prayed for the Lord to bring back certain childhood memories and reveal what happened. It turned out that when she was around 3-4 years old, her impoverished single-parent mother left her with a distant aunt to raise her because she didn’t have enough money to raise both her and her sister. The girl remembered crying and screaming for her mother and experiencing a deep feeling of abandonment. Of course, she was too young to understand the reasons why her mother left her there, and it didn’t matter anyway.

In the days to follow, her aunt tried to deflect some of her own feelings of guilt by blaming the girl, saying, “The reason why your mother left you is because you eat too much!” Several years later, the girl was reunited with her mother and sister. Even though things went back to normal on the surface, the psychological damage was done, and she began developing anorexia. She bought the lie of the devil that she must stop eating in order to be loved.

After renouncing the lies of the devil and exercising forgiveness on all sides with the mom professing her love for her daughter, and that she was allowed to eat as much as she wanted, a miraculous healing took place in her mind, and she immediately regained her appetite and asked for something to eat because she was really hungry, whereas moments earlier, she had no appetite.

About a year later, the mission team returned to visit this family and was astounded at the girls recovery. She was barely recognizable because of all the weight she had regained. The girl no longer had any eating disorder and was completely healed.

I believe the same healing is available for you.

Bobinator is right. I, too, once struggled with anorexia and bulimia especially as a teenager. I still struggle with wanting to overexercise, but the Lord has really been working in my life.

In some, as was the case for me, people have the sense that they need to be "perfect" in order to be loved. This comes from various childhood/life experiences where maybe you suffered a traumatic experience like Bob said, or maybe that the key people in your life for whatever reason didn't meet your emotional needs unless you accomplished something great. I watched the movie "Chicken Little" with my daughter last night. In that movie Chicken Little's father didn't believe him when he tried to warn everybody that the sky was falling and was embarrassed by him. He even told him to basically "lay low" and to not allow people to see him. Chicken Little was determined to make his dad proud, so he told him that he was going to join the baseball team like his dad did when he was in school. His dad basically told him that he didn't believe that he would do well with that and tried to get him to do something else. So then, he joined the team and went through so much trouble bc he was determined to make his dad proud. Finally, he got a home run that won the game and his dad was all of a sudden proud of his son and was paying him attention.

Sometimes we become so obssessed with this need to please others because we feel we need to be "perfect" in order to be loved and we are so driven with fear that we overdo it. We get this distorted sense of self and we don't see how beautiful God has made us. We don't have to please anyone but God! If we lay it all down at Jesus' feet and let go and give God the control over our bodies, he will honor that to no end! He will bless us with peace and a sense that we are not lacking anything. All we need is Him. He loves us no matter what we look like, do, or whatever. Plus, our bodies are his temple and he says that anyone who defiles the temple will be destroyed (or something like that). And if you are starving yourself, that is exactly what would happen (not only physically, but emotionally and mentally, too) We do not own our bodies. The belong to the Creator.

If you find that you don't love yourself, try doing things to show love to the beautiful person that God made you to be. For example: "God made me beautiful" "God knit me together in my mother's womb and knows the number of hairs on my head" "God does not make mistakes." "There is no fear in love. Perfect Love casts out all fear."

Remember, God looks inwardly at your heart/attitude and your obedience. He does not look externally. He does command you to take care of his temple, though.

If there was some abuse/neglect in your past. Go to God and tell him that you are willing to give yourself to him and that you want to be healed from your past. Your past is the root of it all. Let him come in and uproot the tree that has it's roots in rejection or abuse and let his love give you roots. Then he will give you wings! Oh, to be free!! Wow!! Praise Jesus!

There is an old, old show from TV called "The Greatest American Hero." These are the words to the theme song:

Believe It Or Not / Written By: "Mike Post and Stephen Geyer"
Performed By: "Joey Scarbury"

Look at what's happened to me,
I can't believe it myself.
Suddenly I'm up on top of the world,
It should've been somebody else.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer,
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

It's like a light of a new day,
It came from out of the blue.
Breaking me out of the spell I was in,
Making all of my wishes come true ue ue.

Believe it or not,
I'm walking on air.
I never thought I could feel so free eee eee.
Flying away on a wing and a prayer,
Who could it be?
Believe it or not it's just me.

That's the song I was singing when the Lord did some awesome work of healing in my life, because that is exactly how I felt, as though I was so FREE EE EE!

Psalm 34

I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,

13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking lies.

14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;

16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.

22 The LORD redeems his servants;
no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.
