  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sometime during the last few days of March, 2007, after years of frustration following a relationship path that I knew God did not want me on, I prayed the following prayer, "Lord, I'm done running from you. I'm done being foolish. Obviously I don't know what I need, and what I want must not be what I need. Show me what I need, what You want for me..not what I want. Show me my husband." I knew the husband part was kind of a stretch, but I felt so peaceful inside knowing that I was done running from and ignoring God. I was content with whatever God had in store.

On April 6th, 2007, Iabout a week later, I sent Reborn_in_Christ a PM message here on CF after reading a post of his and liking what he had to say. I had nothing in mind, and neither did he. But God certainly did. (Check out the post below).

I am happy to announce that on September 27th, a little over a week ago and about 7.5 years later, Reborn_in_Christ and I were united in marriage before God and family/friends. It hasn't been an easy road, but it has been worth it. He might not be what I thought I wanted years ago, but he's exactly what I needed.

I am so blessed. Praise be to God.

Congratulations! I'd love to know the story of how that message turned into getting married.

After the initial message we talked quite a bit here and through AIM. Turned out we had a lot in common and although he lived about 7.5 hours from where I was, he had taken a summer job closer by. We spent that first summer getting to know one another, and spent one fall semester apart. He changed college majors and transferred to a school in the town where I lived that December (how convenient lol). That was also the same month we got engaged. But we were young, and we moved fast and were still in college, so at our parents' request we waited until we had both finished college-which ended up getting pushed back quite a ways due to finances. What a long road.

I knew he was the one after our second phone conversation, and of course everyone just rolled their eyes about that haha.

We actually planned a wedding twice and had to postpone due to unforeseen expenses and events. How embarrassing. Because we didn't originally have a romantic engagement story, as a college graduation gift he got me a microscope (I was a biology major) and set it up to surprise me. He had me look through the eyepiece and engraved on one of the slides were the words "Marry me?"

So here we are 7.5 years later, finally married. In that amount of time we've been through so many of life's ups and downs, and our lives and dreams eventually wove into an inseparable thread. We have forgiven each other a lot, and I can really say that we know who each other is pretty thoroughly, good and bad. We live by the philosophy that love is a choice, not an emotion. Emotions are fleeting and unreliable, but each day we choose to love one another, because life gets in the way and even liking each other some days can be tough. We make a great team, and he's my best friend. I'm pretty hopeful that if we keep the one thing that brought us together..prayer..as our central focus, we will be in this for the long haul.

I think that is a very creative way to propose. Okay, maybe just a little nerdy, but still pretty cool. :) If he pulled the execution of it off well, that sounds like it could have been romantic, too.

Did he make the proposal look like some kind of amoeba so you weren't sure about it? :)
