I am very, very angry about this.

I will not dress it up as anything, I don't like it.

On my profile I see an age-old warning for a post when I made a joke in bad taste because I had an off-day. I feel like I am marked.

Notes on users sounds a bit unforgiving if you ask me. I don't like the idea about saying someone is a troublemaker or anti-Christian or whatever even if they can see and report it.

Also, user notes will NOT contain anything besides FACT. No commentary, no opinions, no gossip will be tolerated.

as for the current user notes...
They will be visible to the user at all times as well...
They will not be visible to the general membership only to that member and staff.

Hi Gwenyfur... The information you provided here is not how I understand this new system to work. A member will be informed when anything is modified, added or removed from their user note. Members will also be able to read their user note by request (although who the request should/may be made to I'm still working on finding out).

This is not the same as it was before in regards to the user note appearing on all posts. All of these things will be covered in staff training for sure... Thanks!

From what I understand this is more about the technical aspects of how the system works rather than a wish to hide anything. Members will be kept fully informed when anything is added, modified and/or removed from their user note. They can also request to know what information is in the user notes at any time (again, who this request will go to I am finding out -- need to write the PM yet, so it's not a matter of not being answered. )

I want to see my user notes. I was told I could see them. I have asked to see them.. but I still haven't seen my user notes.

Does every member have notes? Can I make my own notes and add them to your profile? I could put them on as a guest entry. I need notes too!!

I'm not even positive the system has been activated yet, because I don't see any user notes on anyone's profile or posts anywhere I've looked yet... This could also be because they will not be used often.

We are still working out the specifics of this system as far as I know. Please be patient as we work through these changes, and I will keep you as members notified when I receive answers myself. There is a lot of work to be done, and we are all volunteers.

Also, unless you have known socks, have received an FSB that is active, etc... there will be NO NOTE on your account ANYWHERE. As we have explained these are ADMINISTRATIVE notes that do NOT contain any information other than facts that staff needs to know in order to do their jobs (i.e. enforce bans, ban sock accounts if a main account is banned, etc...). AND, if anything is ever added to your note you will be notified. I am not sure who will be in charge of complying with member requests to view their notes. I will try to get this answer to you as soon as I can.

If you need a place to make notes for yourself, may I suggest using the Member Drafts forum? That is where I work on posts and write reminders for myself. They are private in that only you can see the threads that you create.

IIRC - they appear almost like a signature in the bottom of your posts.

Some clarification I just received...

User notes will indeed appear on a member's posts. Br. Max is right -- if a user has a note it will appear under their signature, but is only visible to staff at this time.

We are trying to figure out if we can coding wise make an option that will allow people to choose whether they themselves will be able to see their note or not.

Right now, it's an all or nothing thing, and not all members wish to see their notes as it could have a demoralizing effect to see it every time you post. (i.e. say a member receives an FSB for a mistake, the user shouldn't have to be reminded of that everytime they post, even if others prefer it that way).

I hope this clear up any confusion. As you can see if we CAN make it a user option to see their note this would alleviate the need for someone to be in charge of complying with requests and it would further reduce the workload on staff, so it is something we are looking into.

It was pretty much stated in the OP. They are notes that will be attached to a user's account that shows any sock accounts, forum specific bans, warnings, infractions, etc. They will show up on every post for the mods to see, and users can see their own on request.

They work just like your signature, only staff make them, and only staff can see them.

I don't get the whole wiki thing to be honest. Especially as it seems that Lee is intent in getting rid of the whole thing i don't really see the point in learning how it works now.

The Discuss Rules forum is now in Wiki format by Lee's preference. I think it will be the only wiki format forum. The idea is that the article page can be used to create a summary of the discussion. It's not used for creating rules or building consensus around a version of a rule. It's just an executive summary of the discussion.

Our posts are off-topic to the announcement, but I'll leave them here for explanation in case other people have similar questions or concerns.
