I have no issues whatsoever with usernotes. I along with RN4CHRIST also supported and fought for usernotes. Not to gossip or to have hurtful comments... but as a means for data for other teams in other forums. Like sock accounts and fsbs, warnings and infractions info. Never to hurt anyone. And I'm sorry for the times that the usernotes in the past did hurt some... that was never intentional or desired.

How many user notes can a single member have ? Are user notes stored in a single document or is each user not a separate document ? When will user notes be implemented ?

2.) Regarding who will be adding to the user notes. I believe it will be Admins, Supermoderators, with staff on the Records & Research team managing the information. I will check on this and find out for sure though. If this information is not correct I will edit this post tomorrow to reflect that.

Why not ordinary moderators ? What does managing user notes consist of ?

From my time on staff i see that this is a necessary move. I would recommend that the content of these user notes be selected out of an already approved pool ie. there are generic ways of identifying whether someone has an fsb, socks etc, as i do think that some of old user notes were written with a degree of bias due to conflict between the mod and the poster. Having a list of authorised notes would go a long way to reduce the possibillity of abuse.

I suggested a format for the behaviour record at foru.ms/t5795858&page=8. An entry could for example look like this :

The proposal has not been worked out yet as the Powers That Be did not support it and now they are not interested in my opinion, so there is still no point to working on it. What I proposed was a log, while user notes appear to be erasable.

Watersmoon 110 : Why will the User Notes only be available upon request? Can't they be made available to the user they are about at all times?

Members will be kept fully informed when anything is added, modified and/or removed from their user note. They can also request to know what information is in the user notes at any time
Why don’t you solve the technical issues before implementing user notes ? When we wikied we needed to work with the tools we had. We didn’t make rules that couldn’t be implemented.

User notes will indeed appear on a member's posts. Br. Max is right -- if a user has a note it will appear under their signature, but is only visible to staff at this time.

That would severely restrict the size of the notes. Why that restriction ? What is wrong with the behaviour record I suggested ?

Right now, it's an all or nothing thing, and not all members wish to see their notes as it could have a demoralizing effect to see it every time you post. (i.e. say a member receives an FSB for a mistake, the user shouldn't have to be reminded of that everytime they post, even if others prefer it that way).

Hide it somewhere in the member’s control panel, then (s)he doesn’t have to see it, but always can.

I hope this clear up any confusion. As you can see if we CAN make it a user option to see their note this would alleviate the need for someone to be in charge of complying with requests and it would further reduce the workload on staff, so it is something we are looking into.

The OP didn’t state it, but it should have.

A member can request at anytime a copy of their user notes. If there is something on there that the member finds objectionable they can contact the reconciliation team and have it looked it to.

Will user notes be appealable ?

I don't think that too many people object to using them, but it's that last that part that "whatever they want to note" part that sticks in some peoples' craws.

That would be addressed by restricting in the rules what sort of comments can be placed there, letting the members see their note and letting it be appealable (assuming the appeal process effectively works for the members).

I have a suggestion. Give a redundant account a user note, take a screenshot of it and post the picture in this thread.

The Powers That Be are rather silent on the subject of user notes these last two weeks. Informing the members as soon as possible seems to take a long time.
