ok call me slow but who and why are these user notes created? is this a method of pink slipping or keeping tabs on users? for what purpose? Will this affect those of us with sock accounts for reasons that are valid? I have a series of user accounts being used to do a pet feeding study with each of the various types of pets.

Hi everyone,
I'll attempt to answer all your questions, and what I'm not sure of I will find out for you tomorrow (later today - Monday)...

1.) RE: Policy Manager Position ~
MNPhysicist is no longer the policy manager as of LeeD's acquiring the site. MNPhysicist is now an assistant to LeeD, along with Constance. They are our "Empress" and "Grand Poobah" now. Or basically the overall site managers, if you prefer! LOL

2.) Regarding who will be adding to the user notes. I believe it will be Admins, Supermoderators, with staff on the Records & Research team managing the information. I will check on this and find out for sure though. If this information is not correct I will edit this post tomorrow to reflect that.

3.) Regarding member access: Sorry I didn't make that more clear. I have now switched the word "or", to "and" to clear up the confusion.
Members will be notified whenever anything is added to your user note. You will also be able to view your user note upon request (I'll have to check and get back to you on who exactly you are supposed to ask to access this information.)

4.) RE: Zfawnz's post
These are notes added by Administrators, and mods to keep readily keep track of information they will need to perform their jobs. For instance if someone has been banned in the past, if a member has known sock accounts (for any reason, but mostly because if one account is banned all socks will need to be banned as well), if a member has received a warning, etc.... This is necessary because of the new warning/infraction system.

As stated, all members will receive notice anytime anything is added to their user note. You will also be able to request to view the information your user note contains.

The announcement regarding the new warning and infraction system includes more information about warnings/bans, etc... and after reading through that you can see why it will be necessary to add notes in this manner. Here is the link to that announcement (Scroll down on the page for the appropriate one... I think it's the third announcement. I will also be copying that annoucement into a thread here in the Announcements section in a few minutes. It will be stickied at the top.).

ok I can respect this, if I am reading this correctly if members mind thier business and are abiding by policy or simply being respectful and courteous and living by principle (therefor posting based upon values that would not land them into trouble) then they really need not worry. it seems like this is a record of sorts like what a high school principle may keep in case of trouble students or wahtever, and from an administration perspective I can see the desire to do so. with this being a forum that has juveniles and adults both being mingled here, I aslo see the importance and safe guards being put into place. however, where I am having some difficulty accepting this is when there may have been some 'reported posts' based upon one or more members 'hurt feelings' and more was made of a situation than was perhaps ameably intended or needed to resolve the situation. I have for a couple months now ceased all posting due to a few persons that found it fun to report everything I said jsut because they were offended by a comment or two I had said. I am sorry they were offended but I never intended harm, and only had stated what I saw was obvious fact and it was taken personally as a 'flame'. I personally know that I am a very assertive individual and have been told I am 'blunt' and 'intimidating' to those who truly dont know me. I am sorry they took my words as they did, however, I dont wish for this previous misunderstanding to remain a constant 'black mark' on my reputation as then I will never feel free to post ever again as I find it to be misleading if not seen in its total context. there was a lot of people here on hightened emotions and nerves at the time and I understand this.

this leads me to ask 2 questions.......

1) are these notes reviewed in and respected for the context of any and all surrounding context of a given situation and put into perspective of the boards overall member morale?

2) are these notes ever to be reviewed and any so called 'balck marks' allowed to be repealed and or 'expunged' if a greivance is brought to the administration and the situation resolved on ameable grounds or after a given 'probationary' period?

They will be visible to the user at all times as well...
They will not be visible to the general membership only to that member and staff.

Cus prior to 7/7/7, mods had put inaccurate information about me in my user notes...and I would only find out after appealing a warning!

So yes, it should not be made public, but it should be on a members control panel, so they can see it. If what you store about them is CORRECT information, then what is there to hide?

Unless you guys ALSO use it to store spiteful hate remarks about posters you don't like!

Yes. The system is not active yet to my knowledge. I don't even know how it works, to be quite honest. Every time a change is made to a note it is supposed to be sent to a user...or if they request it. I've never used the system so it's all Greek to me.

I don't know the technical aspects of the system so I really can't answer your question. How they work...what they look like etc.

From my time on staff i see that this is a necessary move. I would recommend that the content of these user notes be selected out of an already approved pool ie. there are generic ways of identifying whether someone has an fsb, socks etc, as i do think that some of old user notes were written with a degree of bias due to conflict between the mod and the poster. Having a list of authorised notes would go a long way to reduce the possibillity of abuse.

Given what has been announced regarding the fact that users can request to view their user notes at any time, I am assuming that it will NOT be visible on every post, etc...

I am honestly not familiar with the old system, but I think this is going to be a lot different than before, both in theory and in practice (at least from everything I've read it would seem to be the case).
I, and I'm sure all staff, are well aware of the problems that happened before and thus why only FACTS will be allowed in a user's note -- no opinion, no comments, no gossip.

Just to clarify: 1.) User notes will only be maintained for administrative purposes, and will contain only facts. 2.) Members will be notified of what is added to their user note whenever it is modified. Members may ALSO request to see their user note at any time (I forgot the other night to check on who members go to in request -- my guess is any number of Admins... but that is ONLY a guess! :) ).

I hope this clears up some of the confusion. I will read back through this and see if there's anything else that I missed that I can answer for you. I will check on the other things that I need to ask about myself. :)

Just so you all know... We are holding formal training for ALL staff, and there is a lot of work still being done with the technical aspects of the site. Please bear with us as we go through these changes. All of your staff is working hard right now, and we are all multi-tasking like crazy!! :)

May I please request that you all give us a chance before assuming that these changes are all negative? What some might see as "positives" other might not have... What some might see as "negatives" others might see as positives. Why not give us a chance here and THEN see if these changes are truly positive or negative. The past is the past. We are all attempting to move forward and make this the best site it can be but that includes the cooperation of the members as well not to make assumptions that these things are all negative. You may actually find that once the changes are made and things settle down that there will be LESS strife here than before -- that is the hope of Lee AND the rest of the staff.

User notes should only be used to note simple facts.

"User is on a two-week FSB."

"User's IP matched accounts A, B, C."

There shouldn't be any personal remarks about users. I know that we had a problem with that a while back; this is what we're trying to avoid. If you have concerns with a user note on your account, the Reconciliation Team would be willing to look into it. I know that the Records and Resources team is also going to be going through old notes and removing/updating them.
