I'm excited to see this made-for-television movie. It airs this Sunday, December 14th at 7pm EST on CTV. Click here to read a synopsis, and see some clips from the movie. I've always enjoyed Kevin Sullivan's work, and I'm hoping this will be no different.

Wow, I had no idea about this! Thanks for sharing, QuakerOats! I adore the whole "Anne Of Green Gables" series and would love to watch this. I don't think we get CTV here in the USA. Hopefully it will eventually air over here, or will be released on DVD in the near future.

Well, I watched the three-hour premiere. All in all, I thought it was well-done, though I felt it dragged on in some parts. A heads-up to anyone who has enjoyed Sullivan's previous Avonlea works - some original Avonlea favourites do make a very small guest appearance, and there are a couple of flash-back scenes from the other Anne movies.

I just realized that CTV is a Canadian station. lol Anyway, I hope it airs in the USA and other countries as well, ItalianAngel, so that fans from other countries like yourself can watch it, and hopefully enjoy the latest, and undoubtedly the very last installment in the series.

So I'm a huge fan of the whole Avonlea/Anne series. What is this supposed to be? A mini-series? Does any of the original "Anne" cast play in it? I always did have a huge crush on Gilbert Blythe!!! ;)
It's a movie exploring Anne's life before Green Gables. It features a fully grown Anne, portrayed by actress Barbara Hershey, reflecting back on her childhood before she came to live with the Hammonds', and subsequently, the Cuthberts'.

Here's the sypnosis:

It is 1945 and Anne Shirley (Academy-award nominee and Golden Globe winner, Barbara Hershey) now a successful, middle-aged writer has returned to Prince Edward Island for an extended visit. On a whim, she agrees to write a play for a theatre producer. The play, she reasons, will keep her busy—at least busy enough to not go out of her mind with worry about her only son who has yet to return from the war overseas. But a long-hidden secret in the form of a letter from her errant father, discovered under the floorboards at Green Gables, provides a distraction of its own. As Anne struggles to complete the play, she delves into long-buried memories, reliving the troubled years before she arrived as an orphan at the Green Gables farmhouse. She is forced to confront the fact that she made up stories about her life; after her mother died and when her father deserted his young daughter. During that time, Young Anne (newcomer Hannah Endicott-Douglas), is taken into the care of a wealthy matriarch, Amelia Thomas (Academy-award winner Shirley MacLaine) and her daughter-in-law, Louisa (Rachel Blanchard), which changes her life forever.

Over the course of one remarkable summer, Anne Shirley discovers the astonishing truth about her father, the origins of her quest for "kindred spirits" and the roots of her brilliant, magical imagination.

As I mentioned previously, there are some, though small, surprise guest appearances from Avonlea's 'regulars.'
