I think animal cloning is purely wrong. God is the Creator we should not meddle with His Creation that way. I think the results of cloning so far show the strength in that statement. Animal testing......I would say that would depend on what's being tested. I saw something a couple of weeks ago that Pres. Bush uses mice to test the food he eats when over seas. I see nothing wrong with this. To God we are more important than the rest of His creation. We were made in His image, nothing else was. Hunting, I think that depends on the methods. If you're hunting for a trophy and leave the rest of the animal to rot, not good. If you make as much use of the animal as you can I believe that's fine. I think that some groups in this country focus more on the rights of animals than they do on the rights of the life of humans. That's a sad statement on our society.

....Animal...Rights....

I am all for treating animals with respect, after all, they are part of Gods creation.

However, I cringe whenever I hear someone talking about how animals are equal to humans.

The theory that animals are equals to humans is simply untrue.

For one thing, what happens when someone is murdered? We humans think it is horrible. And if a child is murdered, the person who murdered them is the most awful person to walk the face of the earth! If an elderly person is murdered, the person who murdered them is the most awful person to walk the face of the earth! If a handicaped person is murdered, the person who murdered them is the most awful person to walk the face of the earth!

We humans show compassion to the young, old, and crippled of our society.

The animal kingdom doesn't work that way. If a cheata attacks a young, old, or crippled buffalo in the herd, all the other buffalo run for their lives. They don't care about the buffalo who got killed. Any one of the buffalo could have stopped the incident, but they didn't. They were probably thinking "oh well, now that george is gone, at least there will be one more spot at the watering hole.

And what about people who try to save the killer whales? If you threw a human in to a tank full of killer whales, do you think the killer whales are going to immediately say "Save the human?" No! They would eat the human! Animals only care about themselves!

Humans have the abillity to care about, and help, others. That is what separates us from the animal kingdom. The very fact that we think about helping the animals, proves that we are better than they are.

We can kill cows for hamburgers if we want to. This earth and all its inhabitants were created for us to enjoy.

-hope this helps-

About cloning:

I think that as was stated by raphe, there is technically nothing wrong with cloning an animal if that helps human society. God gave us the animals to use to help mankind. Now, nobody should be unnecessarily cruel to animals, but if we need to use them for something then so be it.

There are a couple problems with cloning:

1. Nobody really knows what will happen when we start merging genetic streams carelessly. Are there unintended side effects that will result? I used to believe that the locusts from Revelation 9 were figurative, but now I'm not so sure. What if they are someone's biological weapon or experiment gone horribly wrong?

2. Animal cloning inevitably leads to human cloning as evidenced by the logic above.

a. The problem with human cloning is that it destroys hundreds of viable embryos in attempt after attempt to get one good one.

b. Many animal clones are dying horrible deaths within the first year or two.

c. Popular media tends to view clones as slaves or sub-human in some other way, that they are "owned" because they were "created". Many times they are wiped out en masse at the end of the cartoon, comic book or show with callous disregard to their humanity. I believe that in addition to banning human cloning, we should create laws right now extended 100% of our human rights to human clones, even if they were created illegally. This is my greatest concern.

Hi. I am currently doing an RS essay for entitled "A Discussion of Animal Rights with Reference to Christian Beliefs About Human Nature and Creation" for my coursework. Could anyone help me by stating their views on animal cloning, testing, hunting etc and give me permission to use your quote in my essay? Thank you.
I'm all for it. I think it'd be pretty neat to see a wolley [sic?] mammoth walking around.
In Genesis 29 God gave man "dominion" over the fish, birds and everything on the earth. That means two things.
1) we are superior
2) we have a responsibility not to abuse our superiority.

Now, if you want to catch a fish and eat it, go for it. If you want to breed domesticated cows, go for it. If you want to give a rat a disgusting cancerous tumor, go for it - you might save a human because of your test and 1 human is more valuable than a zillion rats.

Conversly, it you want to build a fleet of monstrous commercial fishing boats, and sell everything you catch at the market...well, hold on just a second, that's not properly exercising your dominion. You're abusing it.

Anyone who abuses animals is pretty whacked.
Anyone who treats animals like they have the rights of people is even more whacked. There is a natural balance in the middle. We would do well not to go overboard either way.

You can quote me as long as you make sure my quote shows that I am in the middle.

Since God has given the man domain over animals it may not necessarily be a bad thing to clone animals. How do we know that cloning animals is bad? Isn't that another way to use them and exercising our domain over them? However, animal testing may be a very bad thing, because it may lead to cloning and genetic engineering of human beings, and that is not up to us but up to God himself, since he had created us he set the process in motion and everything should be working fine as it is.

ps: Yes, you may use this quote anywhere.

Well, I have one of my favorite biblical quotes:

Ecclesiastes 3.19

"For the fate of humans and the fate of animals is the same; as one dies, so dies the other.

They have the same breath, and humans have no advantage over the animals; for all is vanity."
I have had this discussion before in debate classes, and in this forum. Always a good quote to use :)) ).

There is a difference between animal rights and animal welfare.

I support animal welfare but not 100% on animal rights.

While we cannot stop what has started with cloning I believe we should stand for the welfare of everything involved in the experimentation process.

Animal testing is something I believe is necessary, though it needs to tightly be monitored. It is easy to go to the extreme for little more than self satisication rather than for the advancement of humans.

Hunting is almost a necessity in many areas due to the advancement of human population. Without hunmting, overpopulation can and does lead to starvation and the spread of many diseases.

You can ask me whatever you wish, or use whatever I say. If it helps, I've worked in humane societies for the past 10 years.
