  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Albion: Not sure if your comment was directed towards me, but my purpose wasn't really to push the conversation in that direction. I was just honestly curious about Secundulus' church.

Sorry. I was not directing it at anyone in particular but I did have your comment in mind ("Does your service include consecration bells, elevation of the host, Marian intercessions, etc?")

That doesn't mean that it was a criticism. I suspected that it would be almost impossible for the discussion NOT to drift this way the longer we talked about it. When people start discussing high and low, they naturally tend to want to itemize the things that identify the one side or the other. There was nothing wrong with your question.

I currently attend a church where the idea of robing for any service puts you into the high-church realm. ;) Our minister has worn robes precisely once--for his induction by the bishop, and then, of course, liturgically appropriately, he was in choir dress.

Tim

This is a good example of what how we can get really specific when discussing such things. In the USA, Low church usually means chasuble, stole, and surplice for Communion, and no stole for MP and EP. While there are some parishes in which the minister vests in a black robe instead, the average Low churchman here wouldn't think of a service with him not vesting at all--yet I know that youi are correct in what you report about your experience.

Secundulus: Thanks for the answer. I know of no TAC churches around me, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Do you have an opinion on the upcoming Anglican Ordinariate?
I am 100% in favor of it as evidenced by my faith icon.

If you want to read up on what is going on, this blog is a good source. The Anglo-Catholic
