I don't know what He looked like but when I saw that icon it made me cry and my heart was wrung with a desire to see Him in the flesh!

this is exactly what icons are for....to give us the desire to see Him in the flesh! To inspire us to great heights through Him, not for worldly gain, but for the total aim of our life, which is to acquire the Holy Spirit... And one day, we will see Him!
Here are a few more *suzannah hands out kleenex*

This one, on the left, is called : Christ the Teacher. I believe this one is relatively new. the one in the middle is also relatively new, but note that iconography does not change. He is depicted faithfully true to the Holy Tradition of what He looked like. The one on the far right, is one of the oldest icons in existence.

Ahh, my favorite straw man. Notice how many people have replied that they know Jesus wasn't blonde? How many have said they've never seen a depiction of a blonde Jesus? How many have said "I could care less if he was purple?" How many have acknowledged that Jesus was Middle Eastern Jew?

The throng of racist Christians who believe Jesus was Swedish and would abandon their faith if it was proven otherwise does not exist. I have been in churches of every denomination and ethnic makeup and have seen one depiction of Jesus as blonde with blue eyes, and that was in a Mormon household.

For the record, in my church He is depicted as Middle Eastern in the icons, most of which are modeled on the one Suzannah posted.

i always get a kick out of the actors in all the "Jesus" movies. did anyone else ever notice that the people that play Jesus, His disciples, Mary, etc. all look like a bunch of models? Like nobody back then was ugly... (Not that Jesus came as an ugly man, but please...lets be realistic here).
