1 Corinthians 1:10-12
10 Now I beseech you, brethren,
by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye all speak the same thing,
and that there be no divisions among you;
but that ye be perfectly joined together
in the same mind and
in the same judgment. {divisions: Gr. schisms}
11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren,
by them which are of the house of Chloe,
that there are contentions among you.
12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; ...

Right, Paul was correcting the Apostles
for schism.
Back then.
If it could happen then, to the original
Apostles, who walked with Jesus
Christ, why would you think it didn't
stop?
Or didn't happen again?

Arent you part of a schism as well.
We all are.
:scratch:

Actually the letter was to the people of Corinth, not the Apostles...but anywho, Paul corrected them, they listened, and all was well. This is not happening now.

Very important part of that verse..

Now I beseech you, brethren,
by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
that ye all speak the same thing

He wanted everyone to believe the same thing, because they weren't..so therefore, can the ody of Christ believe different things? Paul didn't think so..

Am I part of a schism? No..if people choose to leave the Church, that doesn't mean I am part of a schism..

That's not what it says.
He corrected them but it never says
they'll not err again from the truth.

Paul did too think they could be divided.
He said just that.
He didn't want them to be but they
were.

Maybe the people of Corinth did, down the line, have another missunderstanding which was corrected again. I mean we can't deny that heresies popped up here and there from people within the Church..but through the Grace of God, the Holy Spirit, and the chosen leaders, these heresies were squashed..just like Paul did in Corinth.

Paul did too think they could be divided.
He said just that.
He didn't want them to be but they
were.

But division was not part of the plan. He said clearly, "In the Name of Jesus Christ, I ask that you all speak the same thing." Obviously the right way to go, was for all to believe the same thing. This is what we get from that verse.

John Gill's Exposition of the Bible 1 Corinthians 1:10

...that ye speak the same thing;
profess the same truths, and express them in the same words; which shows the lawfulness, yea, necessity and usefulness, of confessions and articles of faith, being made and agreed to by members of churches; and which should be drawn up in a form of sound words, and abode by; for the introducing of new words and phrases is often the means of bringing in new doctrines, and of raising great contentions and animosities; wherefore using the same words to express truth by is a very proper and prudent expedient to prevent them:

and that there be no divisions,
or schisms
among you;
which are generally made by innovations in doctrine, or worship; by forming new schemes of religion, new articles of faith, and modes of discipline: but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind, and in the
same judgment;
which regards not only the sameness of love and affection, to one another, being, as the first Christians were, of one heart and of one soul; but their agreement in their judgments and sentiments, of both doctrine and discipline; and such an entire harmony and symmetry among them, as in the members of the body, where each member and bone being in their proper place, exactly answer to, and tally with each other; and which is the most effectual way to speak the same things, and so bar against all schisms and divisions; and such an agreement is absolutely necessary to the peace, comfort, and well being of a church; for how should "two", and much less more, "walk together", unless they are "agreed?" (Amos 3:3) .

Can we be realists without sacrificing our ideals?
I think it's possible...
:cool:
In fact, I think that is what was wrong with the woman who wanted to title Mary's paps as blessed.
Her idealism outpaced her realism, and Jesus got her back in step with His correcting reply.
