WASHINGTON: Six armoured cars and 40 aircraft will accompany US President Barack Obama during his three-day visit of India.

Details of the elaborate arrangements for the tree-day presidential visit on November 6 were leaked to Indian newspaper earlier this week.

According to the Daily Mail, 40 aircraft, including Air Force One, and six heavily armoured cars will follow the president around the country.

The entourage will be the biggest ever in terms of logistics and manpower for any US president.

The president himself will be ferried around in a black Cadillac - dubbed 'Barack Mobile', which has its own built in communications center, to enable Obama to be in touch with the White House, the US vice president and the US strategic command.

The car also has the US nuke launch codes and the nuclear switch for the president. It can also withstand a chemical or germ warfare or even a bomb attack.

Obama will be accompanied on the trip by US First Lady Michelle Obama and their daughters Malia and Sasha.

According to a 2004 CATO Institute report, 40 years of spending on anti-poverty programs have accomplished virtually nothing.
$9 Trillion Didn't End Poverty -- What to Do?

Does confiscating $9 trillion from producers and redistributing it to non-producers through government programs for which there is no constitutional authority make you feel more virtuous?

So, then if the government spending OUR money does not solve the problems what will ?

I suppose you don't know the term working poor. The fact that you call poor people "non-producers" as if they have no worth tells me a lot about you. Also, what to the people who grow exceedingly rich through leveraged buyouts, which devalue companies, produce?

Since I said nothing whatever about "poor people" having "no worth," I think this says more about you than me. Did those who recieved payments from government programs 'produce' those assets? They are, by definition, non-producers.

You seem to be mounted on a very high horse indeed.

Is there no evidence that things could be soooooooo much worse?

I'm sorry, I don't understand this. Are you asking would it not have been a whole lot worse except for these programs?

If so, I have to say I don't think things would have been worse.

So if tomorrow they get rid of ALL Social program... I mean 100%, anecdotally tell me what America would look like 1 month later: What would I see?

Let me see if I understand this, you belittle other people and thus demonstrate your superiority and yet somehow I'm the on a "high horse"? I love (and am usually deeply distrurbed by) getting these little glimpses into the conservative psyche.

Rambot, I'm not advocating the elimination of all social programs, and certainly not abruptly. Whole generations of people have participated in our society designed around these programs. The programs can't be ended suddenly, but I think we should understand the negative consequences of this kind of dependence on government programs and wean ouselves off them. And we should absolutely demand of our politicians that they look for constitutional authority before passing legislation.

Its government government does NOTHING THAT FAST.

Let's say that by some chance they were able to get rid of them that quickly. I'd say the different government programs would have to exhaust all their resources and liquidate all the office materials they have.

Then for a time it would be bad until the American people started having MUCH, MUCH more $ in their pockets and charities would see a rise in the amount of donations they receive. Not always for the right reasons but mostly so. I'd imagine that some would give just so they did'nt have to see the little beggars etc.

A 3 to 5 year approach would perhaps work best, In cooperation with city, county, state agencies and back to work programs etc.

I guess I'd rather throw my money away attempting to help someone (and fail), than see my tax money go towards ammunition for someone's gun. :(

It's funny that you immediately think that nonproducer equates with no worth. Then you do the class warfare bit. You show a true lack of respect for your fellow man.

It may not have ended poverty, but it has redefined it and greatly ameliorated it. Almost no one dies of malnutrition, let alone starvation these days. Nearly everyone has electricity, heat in the winter, running water and indoor plumbing.

That isn't what he said or, evident from his words, what he thinks. You're twisting his words to make yourself a straw man to insult.
