A minister came on the radio and asked that people pray that Jesus would continue to be faithful to his ministry. Perhaps it’s nitpicking but that prayer request burns me up. I’ve heard similar prayer requests before. It seems wrong to me. Jesus is faithful! I hate the thought that it was implied otherwise. It’s like saying, “Pray that Jesus will love me.” Or pray that Jesus will forgive me of my sins when I confess and repent. No need to pray that Jesus will continue to be faithful because he always is. Will it mean money? Maybe. Maybe not.
The minister wanted continuous dependable cash flow for his ministry. I get it money is needed to minister. But is money a measurement tool for Christ’s faithfulness? I learned in a seminary class that God is obligated to grow his church not your ministry. I wish folks didn’t tie Christ’s faithfulness with finances quite like they do. Jesus will always be awesome even if a ministry flounders. Rant over.
