• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An interesting read...

I found the sentiment behind this interesting.

There was a time not so long ago when Americans, regardless of their political stripes, rallied round their president. Once elected, the man who won the White House was no longer viewed as a republican or democrat, but the President of the United States. The oath of office was taken, the wagons were circled around the country’s borders and it was America versus the rest of the world with the president of all the people at the helm.

I firmly believe that, regardless of political party or any other distinction, all politicians should be treated with as much disrespect as possible.

"Interesting" is not how I would describe jingoism (or any other form of patriotism or nationalism):

I'm quite liberal but this article is tripe.

The Joker clown facepaint isn't Satanic.
Obama is nothing like Nelson Mandela.
Telling the president that you think he's hot is not a sign of disrespect (as far as I'm concerned).

The article claims Obama has received more disrespect than any other president. I've heard people claim that this side insults that side more all the time. How can you quantify how much someone is disrespected or insulted? Do you make a tally each time Obama is called a communist? Each time Bush is called stupid?

I agree with the article about people with guns showing up at rallies and the birther movement (chronic unbroken failure was how one article put it) buuuuuuuut that's about it.

When it comes to articles like this, which mach0 correctly pointed out seems to get regurgitated when a new president is elected, when the name calling, burning of effigies, silly photoshops, etc, etc, come out about a political figure the writer in question dislikes well.. it's reasoned discourse! It's free speech! It's the american people voicing their displeasure! When it's about a political figure the writer likes... well... that's racist! It's treason! It's disloyalty! You want america to fail!

It's basically the writer voicing their butthurt at people daring to not like the same political folks they do.

I think you mean KarateCowboy, not mach0. That is, if you're refering to the post 2 behind yours.
