• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An announcement

Hi all

I have a little announcement to make, and I felt that it would be most appreciated here on this forum, so even though I'm a brand new member, I thought I'd share my announcement anyway.

As of this morning, I have boxed up all of my books on paganism and magic / witchcraft to donate to a second-hand store tomorrow. I believe that all books are valuable simply because they're books, so I'm reluctant to throw them away, but I'm getting rid of all of them in order to strip my life of paganism and witchcraft so that I can fully enjoy my new path as a Christian. :)

That's good but you need to burn them:

"A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas." (Acts 19:19)

If you don't burn them, what if they end up in the hands of someone else and confuse them as well?

Those books are evil and need to be destroyed.

Glad you have made this decision - but about the books - would you want to be responsible for turning the mind of someone just not quite sure of what to do, but read that book and turned to the dark side. They should be burned - there is nothing sacred in them - only the hands of the devil guided them to be written.

Once again, book burning can cause a fire. During the summertime especially. It is not wise at all.

Parody,

Excellent move, to get rid of the books. Congrats.

The biblical model is to burn occultic books. It's symbolic of destroying their influence over you. If burning is a problem, disposing of them some other permanent way would be better than passing them on to someone else.

I don't see why she should burn the books though, why not just recycle them? Its better for the environment and they could be put to good use.

Exactly.

You'd better get rid of them and recycling is the best way.
You shouldn't let them be read by others, but burning is unnecessary here, in the 1st century they didn't have recycling, now we can use modern technologies ;)

God bless you :)

Don't let the destination of your books (and the debate here) be a distraction... Your focus should be on your new walk with God. Do you have a good support system? One danger for new Christians is picking up a distorted view of the Gospel. Feel free to ask any questions that you might have, and thanks for sharing!
