The National Enquirer's publisher is cooperating with New York prosecutors, telling them that it paid one of the women alleging she had an affair with President Trump $150,000 and did so specifically to prevent her from influencing the election.

AMI's admission in court stands in contrast to its 2016 statement to The Wall Street Journal: "AMI has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr. Trump."

A lot of people on both political sides were trying to influence the 2016 election.

It would seems that the criminals among those tended to favor the Republican.

A lot of people on both political sides were trying to influence the 2016 election.

That’s not the point. The point is certain methods of influence or attempted influence can violate campaign finance laws and apparently AMI has confessed to what is very likely a violation of campaign finance laws.

Kind of like the difference between having a lawyer send a cease and desist letter to influence someone and threatening them with a gun to do it. Both are attempts to influence, but one isn't legal.

This is true.

Now that the GOP has stacked the SCOTUS; I expect campaign finance laws to be done away with as unnecessary regulation on speech. This may even be the catalyst/case.
I could be wrong, but that's what I expect to see. ymmv

This is akin to a rapist saying, "Lots of people want to have sex with another person." The key fact you're missing is that most people do so consensually. There is a legal way and illegal way to do things. I know it's convenient for you to use whataboutism any chance you get, but there is this little line that separates legal and illegal that you can't ignore.

Just curious -- hypothetically, could AMI claim ignorance? Obviously they knew they were being paid, but thought it was coming from someone's pocket, not the campaign?

Why did some Dems plead the fifth on what they did during the 2016 campaign?
Hillary! Obama! Ocasio! Brown! Lyin’ Ted’s Father! Dianna!

The Enquirer killed a story by buying the rights to influence the campaign for their candidate. And they admit to doing so in collaboration with said candidate.
