  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was watching Oprah today and she did a show about American Icons like the hamburger, moon pies, tootsie rolls, Ruby slippers from the Wizzard of Oz, Fonzie's leather jacket, Rocky's boxing gloves, and iron tool used by Abraham Lincoln etc.

I actually have an interesting connection to a very famous American Icon - Coca Cola. It was a member of my family that created the original formula for coke. He was a pharmacist and created a drink that contained cocaine as an elixor. He eventually sold the formula to his business partner and that is the person that went on to develop it into the American Classic that it is today.

What items do you think of as representative of America?

That's really neat, D! We have your relative to thank for Coca-Cola!

These may not all be American, but they're what I think of when I think of American culture: the flag, hula hoops, hot dogs, apple pie, barbecue, loud-print tourist clothing, Jane Fonda, Donald Trump, Lou Gehrig, Jackie Robinson, Tootsie rolls, Hollywood, jazz, cotton candy, caramel apples, sock hops, musicals, and Campbell's chicken and stars soup. :amen:

The Grand Canyon, the Smithsonian, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Empire State Building, the Sears Tower, Frank Lloyd Wright's home, Mt. Rushmore . . . those are some places.

As for people, Lincoln, Washington, JFK (and to a lesser extent, Bobby too), and Martin Luther King is moving into iconic status internationally. They're all folks associated with what America represents.
