A submarine sandwich, also known as a sub, wedge, hoagie, hero, grinder, or Italian sandwich, is a type of sandwich that consists of a length of bread or roll split lengthwise and filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, and condiments.[1] The sandwich has no standardized name,[1] with over a dozen regional variations used across the U.S.[2] Larger submarine sandwiches, particularly those that are longer in length or overstuffed with greater quantities of ingredients than usual, are sometimes called battleship sandwiches or destroyer sandwiches.[3]

The terms submarine and sub are widespread and not assignable to any certain region, though many of the localized terms are clustered in the northeastern United States.

I don't care what you call it, but I wish I had one right now!

My late husband was called a foreigner in Oklahoma and I was called a Southerner in Maine. Neither accusation was true.

^_^

Does English make you laugh?

As a learner of English, I absolutely love the language! It doesn't usually make me laugh, but it makes my native English-speaking kids laugh and tease me. They sometimes mimic my accent or make fun of my mistakes in pronunciation or grammar. The latest example is the word "condiments", I always incorrectly pronounced it as "con-die-ments" stressing the middle syllable... :)

My husband said poym for po-em and grow-in for groin. We can tease if we're loving about it. Otherwise...

I generally say "pee-CAN", but yes it was one of the words I struggled with a lot, and still do. Pecan danish - my wife's absolute favourite. :)

How does your wife say it?

:D

Did you look at the map? A man who grew them told me to stop saying pee-KAHN; to say pick-AHN (like you?). Then I met my husband and he said pee-can. I about died! LOL. Originally I said pee-KAHN like my mother did.

I must be an anomaly. According to the map, I should be living about 150 miles north or south of where I have lived almost all of my life.

Pop vs soda vs coke

Pop, Soda or Coke?

I'm all mixed up! I live where people say pop and I forgot all about it!

Bubba?

^_^

I have my own way of speaking and it is very ecclectic, so to speak.

:D

I've lived in too many states. I don't know what to say anymore.

One word that still bugs me is when people ask for a glass of melk. No offense anyone. If you say that I won't try to change your pronunciation.
