I'm just gonna say it: disco is pretty cool. Some of it (*ahem* Disco Duck *ahem*) is lame, but the reaction against disco in 1980 was really over the top. The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack is one of my favorite albums.

Did you watch the BeeGees doc on hbo? Much more depth to those guys as musicians than I ever knew.

Disco is awesome. The good stuff anyway. As is its "enemy" hard rock / classic rock. I play all of it myself.

It seems strange I would have to explain this to a grown(?) adult that burning a book and refusing to publish/sell it accomplish the exact same goal......just without all the photo ops.......

I do and I am correct. Amazon is not the government.
Never said they were (not sure where you came up with idea that I did) but if Amazon is going to say they violated certain rules and won't sell some item shouldn't they at least have the courtesy to their customers (or at least to the vendor) to explain what rule was violated and how?

No....they don't, because a book that one publisher won't release anymore is still available.

Do....do you understand how the world works?

As a courtesy, sure. But they sell a kajillion products, but not another kajillion products. And you are certainly free to look elsewhere for books on particular topics.
Edit: and none of that equals censorship or banning.

Not by the government, no. But it accomplishes the purpose of the cancel culture which is supported by democrats who, incidentally, hold the reins of power in DC. Hmmmmmm, coincidence or?.......

If you can't find a book, give me the title and I'll help you find a source. We'll foil those mean old Democrats.:ebil:

Dude, Here are 5 sellers of this "banned" book that you so desperately want to force Amazon to sell. Knock yourself out.

"When Harry Became Sally" - Google Shopping

Edit: Hey, that's another thing... I notice that you are not selling this or any other controversial book or product. What gives? Why are you banning these items?

Can't speak for anyone else here, but I'm sick and tired of every single thing being politicized to death as a mark of tribal identity. From Goya beans to Dr. Seuss, there is hardly a TV show, a movie, or an object that isn't fetishized with a lot of "come and take it" chest thumping.

This is not coming from liberals and """"cancel culture"""". It's coming from two sources: cynical pundits from certain "news" channels who invent this stuff out of whole cloth, and people* who never grew out of the mentality of a 6th grader who believe it.

They say that one mark of fascism is the aestheticization of politics: politics for the mere 'show' of it. When one of the two parties is completely bereft of ideas and scholarship and instead clings to children's books like Linus clutching his security blanket, you know that our country is in trouble.

*No, this is not a subtle attack at anyone here. Just a general observation.

Canceled by Amazon: Clarence Thomas, Michael Brown documentaries, books on gender top growing list
In recent memory Amazon has removed books from its online store, used its web services to deplatform a social media app popular with conservatives an even blocked a film about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas from its streaming service.

The documentary about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas vanished from Amazon’s streaming service during Black History Month.
Filmmaker Michael Pack told the Wall Street Journal that he was never offered an explanation as to why Amazon removed it.

Conservative author Ryan T. Anderson said this week his book, "When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment," was removed from Amazon last month.

.......riot at the U.S. Capitol. Soon after, Amazon Web Services disconnected Parler from its servers with just 24 hours notice.
Amazon initially told Alex Berenson last year his booklet on coronavirus, "Unreported Truths about COVID-19 and Lockdowns: Part 1," didn’t meet the company’s guidelines.

Filmmaker Eli Steele said last year Amazon blocked his film about the death of Michael Brown from appearing on its platform and he feels it was simply because his story "is not the politically correct narrative."

Does anyone else think there is a pattern beginning to emerge......or am I just adding fuel to the fire?

There it is oh enterprising conservative free marketiers, your chance! Amazon has opened up a market for you, jump in and grasp this opportunity to sell books they refuse to!

Wait, that's so old hat. Cry and scream that they should be compelled to sell what you want them to and your rights are violated if they do not do so.

should bakeries be allowed to refuse to sell cakes they find personally offensive?

Again, got nothing to do with this thread......

You said "You would say the same if the roles were reversed......"

And it's just not true. Neither I nor Larry Flynt (not just cuz he daid now) complain about stores not offering products.

I have said my piece on public accommodation laws and baked goods previously and will not be revisiting the subject.
