Not to sound evil, but perhaps part of why it is easier for you to forgive than it is for your family to forgive, is because you weren't directly the victim, whereas some of them who are having difficulties forgiving were?

I know it is still difficult being close to someone who was a victim though... and I am glad that God is so clearly working in your heart.

Do you think it is weird? It is certainly not something commonly expected of people. Your compassion for this man's soul is evidence of the holy spirit working in you. I hope your not just saying this so that people will praise you though, that isn't right as I'm sure you know, but like MrDude said, it is a possibility (some people do it even if they aren't conciously aware of it)

Your compassion is that of being conformed to the Holy Spirit working in you my friend.

You know...I started this thread to ask a question. I didn't start it to get praise, nor did I start it to have people question whether or not I wanted praise (WHAT?) for forgiving someone.

So, nevermind. If a mod could delete this thread, or lock it, whatever, that would be great.

PS. Kayli, I wasn't his victim, but I was the victim of two rapes and incest. I forgave them all, only by God's love within me. Glory to God for helping me to forgive. Thank you for your response.
