  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The man who sexually abused several people in my family died yesterday.

Is it weird that I'm not happy, as the rest of my family is?

Instead, I feel very sad that he never asked Jesus to be the Lord of his life. At least, not as far as I know. I really wish he had known God. I feel out of place in my family right now because of this.

Prayers are requested.

In His love,
Tink

It seems to me that your compassion heart was on display and what's wrong with that? :) The hardest thing to do is to forgive someone (no matter what they've done) and from what I can tell, you didn't hold his actions against him, which is the right way to go about this. It is, of course, not an easy topic - I am very close to some victims of abuse and sexual abuse and have seen the enormous psychological consequences of that, but they did the same - they forgave and I'm sure that God did too, since we as humans can never be totally in control of our actions. I'll pray for you and your family :)

Thank you for the prayers.

Forgiving him was hard and a long process, but hating someone uses too much energy. When the Lord saved me, I couldn't hate him anymore. I just couldn't. I praise God that He lifted the burden from my heart.

In His love,
Tink

I think you already know that's not weird for a Christian. :) If Christ could plead for the forgiveness of his murderers while hanging on the cross, then I can certainly understand why you would mourn the death of this person who caused your family pain. It's compassion. It's rare, but for a Christian definitely not weird.

Yeah but in the end, the Lord wants us to forgive and feel peace and mercy in our hearts.

Tink I am praying for you, it sounds like that you have avery caring heart and there is no problem with that at all.

And as long as you or someone else presented that gospel to him at one time or another, then you did you job. It was up to the Holy Spirit then. For it is He that convicts and converts, we just plant the seeds.

it's not weird. i've felt the same way.

if you're blaming yourself: please save yourself the beating and accept that God's in control. we all know he is, but it's a matter of accepting it. he knows what he's doing. we ultimately don't have control over people's salvation. i know it's hard to take in...believe me. it hurts. i know all too much. i'm so sorry! truly i am!!! if you need anyone to talk to, i'm here for you.

Tenor, I wasn't a Christian back then. And I haven't seen nor talked to him since I became one. I think maybe I feel bad because I never told him that I forgave him.

Thanks for the prayers.

Black Rain,
Thanks! I'm not blaming myself. I know without a doubt that God is in control! :D

Thanks for the offer. :) It's pointed right back at you, too.

That or you're fishing for compliments/praises.

Why would you say that?

Unless you're trying to spark some sort of bad response from me? I don't know, but...thanks for replying.

Do you think it is weird? It is certainly not something commonly expected of people. Your compassion for this man's soul is evidence of the holy spirit working in you. I hope your not just saying this so that people will praise you though, that isn't right as I'm sure you know, but like MrDude said, it is a possibility (some people do it even if they aren't conciously aware of it)
