It says in the bible that the first will come last and the last will be first to get into heaven. We do not know whether we will or not, it is a doubt that I have often, but if you stick with God and have the relationship with him, he will guide you in your heart, and you can get to where he wants you to be, is what I think.
Jesus also says if you want to get to heaven, give away all of your earthy goods, I believe that includes the bodily sins of lust, greed etc. It is a process being with God and a never ending one, for we are all sinners. Jesus also said to someone who said that he has done many works in Jesus name, but Jesus said I have not known you, so it is not about good works in life, I believe it is having a relationship with God and allowing him to work in us, guiding us. Jesus gave up his life for us, so that we may be saved, what will we do for Jesus?

Getting into Heaven doesn't anything to do with our stuff. Jesus told the rich man that "If thou wilt be perfect".
It was a question to him and no one else is recorded being asked to do this. Peter kept a large boat that he went fishing with. He had a house and a wife. If our hearts are right, we can even have abundance, but our lives are not measured by our possessions and we seek the kingdom first.

Don't look at your faith. It may get shaky at times. Look at Christ. The Bible says He is your Savior. Believe that. Look at your baptism. It witnesses with the Spirit and the Blood that you are forgiven. Your sins have been washed away. Believe your baptism.

Election now is like election in the OT days. Israel was the elect nation, chosen to bring the Christ into the world. Israel's election did not mean that God had no regard for the Gentiles. Rather, election was a positive thing for chosen Israelites and unchosen Gentiles alike. So now you are one of the elect as evidenced by your baptism. You are among the firstfruits of Christ's redemption of the world and chosen to help bring Christ's Gospel to the rest of mankind.

Agreed. That was because the rich man was more consumed with his possessions (idolatry).

I've recently been doing some deeper study in the Word, and a disturbing thought has arisen. Those who are saved are God's elect. It's harsh, but true. Now that has crushed me, spiritually, as I'm not sure if I'm one of the elect (saved) or if I'm fooling myself. I'm not sure how to tell the difference. How do I know I'm truly saved and not one of those that Jesus will say He knew not? I'm actually very frightened of the idea that I'm just fooling myself. I almost feel like I should just walk away, back to my old lifestyle and forget the whole thing. To be honest this feels like a wall between me and God, and the only thing that tells me is that its supposed to be there. That I'm not chosen by God...

Haha...God Bless you bruh but you gotta realize that God is no respecter of persons = God treats EVERYONE the same! What he did for Abraham or pastors he will do for ANYONE! God looks at FAITH which is the opposite of feelings. If you want to know if you're saved then ask yourself these questions. Is Jesus the son of God? Do you accept Jesus as your father and saviour? Do you believe He died for your sins? Do you want him to lead you? If you answered yes to all of them, then are saved whether you feel like it or not! It's that simple bcuz God doesn't make things complicated, so start THANKING God for forgiven you and ENJOY this new father son relationship and hopefully best friends someday...whether you feel like it or not :)

Btw STOP listening to the devil's lies. I hope you don't think these thoughts came from you. You begin to get deeper in the word and BAM these thoughts begin to surface. C'mon think about it what do you think is happening?

Please, someone correct me on this if I am wrong, but

"elect" means God called me to HIM, I accepted his calling and responded by seeking. God knows who will respond to him and who won't, therefore, we who respond are the elect.

So, the fact that you even care about being saved says something, it says that you hear God calling and want to respond, or already HAVE responded and are just having doubts common to us all at certain times.

I have felt the same way as you describe, the encouraging thing is that I felt that way right before I realized that by myself I was totally and competely lost, that I could never earn my way into heaven by works, and that without God I could never be saved. It is through his calling, his grace and his son Jesus Christ, not through my own power or action or will that I am saved.

When I feel like I could never be worthy of salvation on my own, it is because it is true. I am saved because Jesus paid my dues.

^^^ You're right, God's chosen/called ones = His elect. It so happens that God calls EVERYONE and those that answered including you OP become his elect. God already knows who are His elect so it seems like He chose some and left others, but that isn't true, it's just God knowing who said yes or no.

We came from the heart of God and He knew us before we were born. His "elect" are those who answered the call. It is not because they were selected to answer it, it is because they answered it. He always knew who would, but He has given freewill to every person.

Predestination is that God foreknew us, and predestined everyone to be saved by the blood of Jesus. Freewill makes it possible to not choose Jesus, but those who do are predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son (still a choice).

He didn't decide who was going to go to Heaven and Hell, because that would not be fair. We know from His nature in the Word that this is not so.
